Green Box Problem in Aperture

Hey All,

I've been having a problem in Aperture 2.1.4. Every now and again, I get an ugly green box instead of my image. It can happen when I zoom in, when I crop, when I zoom out, or just about any time I am changing the view of the image. I'm on a 20" iMac (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) with 3 GB of RAM and am running Snow Leopard 10.6.2.

I took the machine into an Apple store and they ran extensive tests on the video card and other hardware and everything checked out. Any idea on what's going on? It looks like this:

A couple of you have mentioned running Aperture 3 in 32-bit mode. Could you please say where or how one can make this adjustment? I would like to see if that helps any in my case, as there don't seem to be any other avenues at this point.

Right click on the aperture program and choose "Show Info" or whatever its called in English 🙂
There you can choose 32 bit mode. If you don't see an option to do that, reboot your Mac in safe mode (Google for that) and than choose the option. Than reboot normally. That's how it worked for me...

One thing I thought about: Could the image size make a difference? I work with 10MP images from an Olympus 510. My status (in 32 bits) is sometimes annoying but usable. Could it be that switching to 32 bits mode does not make a difference with e.g. 12 MP images? I'll test A3 in combination with 6MP JPG images form a view years back. See if that makes a difference...

don't know if this works for anyone else but if you just click the "colors" adjustment checkbox this problem goes away for me every time. you don't even have to change any adjustments, just click the colors checkbox when the green box appears and it goes away instantly... it's a dirty fix but i haven't had it fail yet. I have had this problem since leopard and aperture 2, but have been using this fix the whole time thinking i was the only one.

When I check the colors box, the green box problem goes away for a few moments. Not really a fix, though. Kind of like hitting refresh after every edit.

I'm finding better luck keeping the window size a bit smaller, or resizing the window a bit, when the problem occurs. It stays clear for a long time for me, and Aperture 3 is starting to become usable (and quite nice).
