Gilda, see two main points below:
1. If you have installed the correct printer driver, then when you load the firmware (that's the "load
laserjet_firmwarev4.command" file that you run) you will get a message like the one below. Note that the location of the driver file sihp1000.dl: /usr/local/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1000.dl. If the file is there, then you don't need to "install printer extras", and the load
laserjetfirmware program will find the file.

LaserJet1000:
Sending HP LaserJet 1000 firmware to printer HP
LaserJet1000 . . .
lp -d HP
LaserJet1000 -oraw /usr/local/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1000.dl
2. The foo2zjs utility makes it possible to use the laserjet, but it doesn't solve all the problems. Someone on these pages says he never turns off his printer after he's loaded the firmware. I have been trying that, but I had to reload the firmware again today in order to print. Under Leopard, I did the following things to get the printer going again. Sometimes one would work, sometimes I would have to take the further steps:
- delete the print job and firmware load attempts from the queue
- reload the firmware, or
- power the printer off & on, then reload the firmware, or
- power the printer off & on, "uninstall" and reinstall the printer on the Mac, then reload the firmware ...
I don't know yet what steps will be necessary with Snow Leopard. There are definitely differences in Snow Leopard's print interface, so perhaps just refreshing the firmware will do the trick. I'm starting to wonder whether certain kinds of print jobs wipe out the printer's memory and/or overwrite the firmware, so that all or some of the installation steps need to be repeated.
