SD card in the cd slot

I did the SD in the DVD Drive thing too, just too easy!. A straightened large paper clip worked for me. Thanks to everybody who suggested the paper clip technique! However although I did try it bent into an L shape I found that when I felt pressure inside I didn't want to apply force in case it was hooked into the drive mechanism, so instead I ran the straight part along the bottom of the drive and then pushed it upwards until I felt the drag caused by the SD card and continued pushing at an angle until the edge of the card emerged then got a second paper clip to apply pressure from the top and it came out perfectly. Tried the drive and that's fine too!

I was bricking myself when I placed my SD card in the wrong slot...

Managed to grab it by sliding some folded white paper and I gently pulled into it came out.

Seems OK now.

Oh God, I just did the same thing .... totally panic stricken, tried the tape on the credit card and some other solutions ...... then I found this .... thank you!! Go the L-shaped paper clip!!!!!, came straight out after 1 hour of foofffing around .......

I just something dumb(not really if they had put the SD bay in another place), accidentally pushed my SD card into the CD bay. I could still see it setting there and tried to pull it out to no avail, which caused it to disappear. I panicked thinking awww man I'm going to have to take this thing to the apple store and get charged an arm and a leg, but thanks to the "Forum" of genius' I pulled it off. The paper resolution worked fantastically. Thanks one and all for the possible solutions.

Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen! I too fell victim to the sd card in the dvd drive. But with your advice and armed with a paper clip, I'm back to being a "Happy I-MAC".....oooowwweeee! Thanks!

Mant Thanks to you all. I thought I am the only idiot with this problem. Happened just now when my brain is in sleep mode. I tried to mess up everything by first trying to get it out by putting a plastic ruler in ! failing that my stupidity has travelled to where no stupidity has gone before (or done before) by putting a CD in and ejecting it (hoping everything will come out). Nothig worked. Then came across this forum and tried the proven method of paper clip ! IT WORKED !!! CD is working in spite of my interventions too. Hope Apple would put SD slot on other side with next edition of iMac.

Just thought I would add my name to the list! ;-)

Ok Apple, Let's see you design around this one! Oh wait, maybe this is the real reason why they are getting rid of optical drives!

I am YET ANOTHER who did this. Sooooooooo glad that I am not the only one. My husband didn't believe me until he saw this thread. Thank you for the papr clip hint. Worked a treat, SD was out in under a minute. Phew!!!

Thank you everyone. I created the fishing out device just as you said, held the monitor on the side and it came right out.

Glad to know I am not unique in my stupidity!

I thought I was the stupidest person alive for doing this, till I read this thread. I used the folded-in-half cereal box top trick (couldn't get the paper clip to work) and presto. Drive still works, SD card is fine.

Kids huh? I found a cocktail stick and an SD card in my DVD drive (imac 27') A pice of sticky tape on the end of a thin piece of packaging....

The paper clip trick worked wonderfully. Disappointed about the design flaw but still love my iMac! I am so thankful for this thread - it helped immensely!

Well, you can add another name to the list of stupid people who've done this. haha

But thanks to all of these response's I simply used the 'L' paper clip trick and it came out in a matter of no time. I was super nervous that I had broken it, and would be paying A LOT for this.

for those who wish to open a petition to make sure the CD slot is farther than the SD slot, raise your hand. *raisies hand* haha!
