Garageband cant find my recordings!??!

Everytime I open Garageband to open one of my projects it says 'Audio File "no effects#01.aif" not found'. and a SKIP or SEARCH option, search finds nothing....
So like whenever i record something, i save it and quit garageband, i can't reopen the file to edit it or play it or anything!? The box thingy where the audio waves things and sound should be just says 'file not found'
Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know where these files could have gone? ANyone know a way around this?
Thanks in advance.
Mike 🙂

So, i've been using gb for about five years now with out any major issues. That is until today when some of my files came up with the audio not found tag when I searched for them. Anyway, thanks for all the people who wrote stuff on the thread. I have not solved the problem, but I was able to listen to the lost files, but only in preview.

I started up gb.

clicked to open an existing file.

When the list of files came up that I could open I clicked on it once to highlight it, but did not open it.

A preview box comes up with the play arrow.

When I click on the play arrow I can listen to the file, however if I open the file I get the error message.

I hit play on the preview and recorded the files to another computer.

It doesn't solve the problem, but at least I was able to recover the files that I needed for work.

Maybe this might help some one..

I made a draft recording of a session today with some peeps. I saved them all this afternoon only to find out tonight after trying to reopen them, that they are all gone!? what happened? audio files cannot be located. This is the 3rd time it happened, but the last 2 werent so bad cause they were just little takes that I was doing. This time, its got be pretty **** annoyed.. what the **** is going on?

I have had this problem myself and I believe I have disovered the source of the problem.

When changing from one project to the next, I just delete the track and resave under a new name.

The new file seems to keep the old track name....and then can't find it.

check package contents/media/audio files and see if your trak name is the sme as the file name - it won't play back - shows empty tracks in garage band

One possible solution is to transfer audio file to new folder.

In future, create new track when creating new project.

My son figured this out in one hour - anyone ant to offer him a job?

I recorded a very personal project on GB back in 2009-2010 and I am now trying to get it off my flash drive and onto GB again so I can convert it to midi in order to put it on Finale. I've tried multiple MACs in my school's MAC labs and the file won't show up when I go to open it in GB nor does it show in the 'file explorer.' Please tell me my file isn't lost??

Not sure if this was posted yet but I came across this issue last night and the below fix worked for me:

The files ended up in the Recycle Bin and I was able to drag them back into the project without any issues. Note: The missing files issue only seems to occur when I switch devices on my USB port while GarageBand is still running.

Hello,

Yesterday I recorded 5 tracks of real instruments. Once I finished the first track, I "Save as..." he project on my desktop, once it saved, I deleted the track and recorded the second one. Once finished I "Save as..." again with a different name and repeated that process for all 5 songs.

When all was done, I tried to open the projects saved on my desktop and only the last one I made could find the audio, all other projects had missing audio files...

I then opened the "Show Package Content" folder and I found audio tracks in all of them but only the last project had the correct audio track with it. What I found is that in the first project was the audio file of the second project, and in the second one the audio file of the third. Only on the last one I had the correct audio file, which I could also find in the fourth project (so I had 2 of the same audio file in 2 different projects). This means that I could recover 4 audio files out of 5 (the first one being completely missing).

It is certainly very frustrating, I send sooooo much time on this recording.

Is my first project's audio file really gone for good?

Any idea how to prevent this to happen in the future?

Garageband cant find my recordings!??!
