Mail.app suddenly stopped receiving emails!?

Yesterday, mail.app suddenly stop receiving emails. I have 8 accounts installed, 1 gmail, 1 mobile me and 6 other pop accounts (which are on godaddy host) and none of them are receiving or sending emails.

I can receive email messages to my blackberry and other devices but mail.app suddenly stopped receiving and sending emails. I can not send nor receive. Why is that happening and what is the way to solve it?

P.S: I am using Mail.app 4.2 on Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.2

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Hello, I have used connection doctor and it says;

For SSL accounts:

Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account preferences.

For SSL-off accounts:

Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences.

For Mobile Me account:

Could not connect to this MobileMe IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account preferences.

I wonder why is that happening. Additionally, I do not know if it is related but, when I try to visit Godaddy website, everything is ok, but when I try to login (it goes to https website) I am unable to open it. Also, https://email.secureserver.net is not opening too.

If there is something about SSL certificates, why SSL off account is still not connecting?

I am really confused.

I am having a similar issue. I have 2 Gmail accounts; one works perfectly the other has suddenly stopped functioning. The imap settings for both accounts are the same (except for the email address and passwords of course). I have run the connection doctor and all that it tells me is that one account connects properly while the other is claiming that the login or password is incorrect (which I have confirmed is not true by logging directly into Gmail via the web interface).

The only difference that I can see between the 2 accounts is that the one that does not work contains periods in the email address (e.g. terry.m.schmidt@gmail.com) while the other does not (e.g. tschmidt@gmail.com).

I am not sure if this would suddenly cause problems but both the Mail.app on the iMac and iPhone have stopped retrieving from one account while the other account works perfectly. If there is anything else I can do to help please let me know. Thanks!

Terry

It may not be a problem with SSL, but simply those are the types of connection not working.

In System Preferences click on Network, then click on Advanced, then on the tab for Proxies -- is there by any chance a check beside SOCKS Proxy? If so, deselect.

Are you connected via Ethernet or Airport? If Airport, is there any chance you have connected to the router of a neighbor, rather than your own network?

More info, please.

Sorry to not get back sooner. You reported that Connection Doctor mentioned SMTP servers (those used as Outgoing servers), but did you see any thing about Incoming Servers and trying to connect to them? In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced what ports are selected for the incoming? Type of Authentication? If any were to have APOP authentication mentioned, change it to POP only and retest.

Thank you for your help.

All accounts (instead of gmail and mobile me IMAP accounts) are POP - not APOP. Incoming server ports are 995 w/SSL.

But today everything is working fine, like nothing happened before. I am still curious about why all this happened and I wonder will it happen again or not.

I appreciate your help and will let you know if it happens again.
