Mail can't verify the identity of "imap.gmail.com"

About a month ago, I started getting this message from my Gmail account when I launch Mail. When I explore the details of the Certificate, it says that pop.gmail.com cannot be verified, although I have the account set up as IMAP. There's nothing POP about. It worked as IMAP for years.

On a possibly related front, Gmail is not syncing between my multiple Macs -- if I read a message on one computer, it still is Unread on the other.

Any thoughts?

Thanks very much.

There should be an error message of some sort in the email popup -- it'll be in RED. If you don't see this, go into your keychain and remove the gmail certificate.

Actually, removing the gmail certificate in your keychain may fix the problem. It could have been some time in the past you used an SSL email connection and that now unused certificate has expired. But Mail could be hanging on to it.

Mail seems to be complaining now that the POP server you named in your email account preferences does not match the actual POP server -- many of these large email services use a redirect.
