I have bought an airport express and I cannot connect to my router Netgear DGN2000 by ethernet. I tried all the possibly configurations and no success. If I set my Airport Express as a Wireless client, there is no problem to share my printer and connect to internet, but if I try to create a new Wireless Lan and connect the AE by ethernet, always get the same error "Ethernet unplugged".
I have set up the configuration on the router according to the the AE. Tried in both methods, DCHP and manually.
If you are trying to setup the AirPort Express to "create a wireless network" it must be configured as a "bridge" to receive the DHCP settings from your Netgear router via ethernet.
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons to setup your wireless network by choosing "create a wireless network" and entering your wireless network name, security, password, etc.
Then click the Internet icon in the row of icons as your final step to make sure that you have the AC setup as a "bridge"
Look for the Connection Sharing setting at the bottom of the page and make sure that this is set to "Off (Bridge Mode)".
Thanks for the information, but I thing that the real problem is on the compatibility between the router and de Airport Express because it seems that no ethernet is detected. I have tried at my work connecting to the network by ethernet and it works Ok.
Today I will try to bought a new router and try with it. Which router do you recommend me to buy?
I have both the DGN2000 and the APX and they work together no problem. At least they did until yesterday, when the APX decided to die... 😟
Anyway, chances are, your APX has an hardware problem
