Magic Mouse - Disable horizontal scrolling ?

like the Magic Mouse a lot, just horizontal scrolling drives me nuts with some apps.

Could you disable horizontal scrolling and keep vertical scrolling activated ?

To Michael at Choice Hotels who put tape/tissue over the mouse... I got desperate enough today to try this after trying to edit artwork in Illustrator with someone standing at my side and I was shooting all over the screen.

I'm left handed so I blocked the upper RIGHT corner of the mouse. I just tried a small post-it at first, placed at an angle over that corner. It didn't do anything at all; no improvement. I still need it to recognize my index finger, of course, so I don't quite get how you're making this work. Can you post an image?

Otherwise I think I'll beg our Sys Admin for a different mouse.

terminal command 'bool NO' worked for me right away. I use the standard MagicMouse setup. I noticed, after Mavericks upgrade, that my MagicMouse scrolled Left/Right on touch and made it hard to mark with my pointer. Thanks for the 'bool NO' and 'bool yes' info; I'm not that deep into boolean algebra anymore but am thankful I, at least, remember the origin of such command instruction. Jay

Finally got fed up with window contents bouncing from side to side as I worked and went looking for a solution. Thanks to this thread I now have MagicPrefs installed on Mavericks and it seems to be the perfect solution. Wish Apple would take note of the effect this issue is having and include a standard preference for people to use. Like others I could not get the Terminal command to work although the necessary key/value pair was written into the plist by it.

If you are here in this forum because of the persistent problem with the ineffectiveness of the Magic Mouse preference settings in OSX as regards scrolling, here is what you need to know:

About The Problem:

Apple is not going to fix this problem. It's been an issue dating back several years and continues still. It is either beyond the scope of Apple's programming intelligence, or they simply don't care about you and your problems. Apple's programming intelligence pretty much speaking for itself, the only option left is that Apple doesn't care. It's one of the perks of the modern day tech business paradigm, where companies like Apple have so many millions of customers and so much momentum behind their market share, they don't have to care about you, the single, obscure nobody, with your Apple computer you've already paid for. Apple also being a die-hard fan-based enterprise, it knows full well that for every one of us who might have a problem such as this, there are at least a hundred thousand others who would put up with just about anything, just to be associated with the logo of an apple with a bite taken out.

The Fix:

Fortunately there is a brilliant, enterprising soul (or group of souls) behind the development of an app called MagicPrefs which more than compensates for Apple's indifference to this & other related problems. It not only addresses the inability to turn off the ever-annoying scroll action that happens anytime our fingers brush across the case of the mouse, it offers myriad other functions you might like.

You owe it to yourself to check out MagicPrefs, and thank the developers for giving us a means to rise above this bit of Apple stupidity.

As one who was VERY annoyed by this same erratic behavior of the Magic Mouse, I was happy to learn about magicPrefs, but once downloaded it, it seems to me like an over kill, at least for MY own needs... After all, the issue was Disable horizontal scrolling... My problem was my middle finger (sorry) hovering over the mouse and occasionally touching it, causing an upheaval on the screen......

So after playing with it a bit, here is the only setting I used, see below... I selected NONE of the main settings, instead, I went to the "Configure Scrolling" and simply edited the "zone on the mouse that triggers the scrolling behavior" and selected the few settings that would work... AND I'M HAPPY NOW!
