Safari login problems (at ally.com)

Hi,

I've read and followed the advice in thread

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10796281&#10796281

but to no avail. When trying to login to ally.com there seems to be a 'circular' problem -- I enter my username (and click 'continue'), and then enter my password (and click 'continue' again) only to be redirected back to the original (first) username login page. This can continue ad nauseum.

I'm running Mac OS 10.6.2 with Safari 4.0.4 with cookies always accepted on my MacBook. Clearing Safari's cache, deleting the 'plist' file(s) (see above link), and resetting Safari didn't help. Curiously, the same problem exists even when using Firefox 3.5.7, and yet no problems occur when using a Windows-based machine (with IE). (I have Flip4Mac 2.2.1, ShockwaveFlash 10.0.r32, iPhotPhotocast, QuickTime 7.6.3, Quartz, and Java for Cocoa as the only plugins as well ...)

Any expertise help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
We're Mac users here, helping each other.

The fact that the same error happens in Safari & Firefox, but works in IE, tells me that
the bank site is not made with industry standards. I would call and email them. Some
banks are slow to upgrade, but they really don't want to lose business.

When you reset Safari, you did chose to clear the cookies, right?
That would be an important step to make sure was addressed before assuming site problems.

HI,

Quit Safari if it's open.

Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities)

Select Passwords on the left.

Delete the ally.com name on the right.

Quit Keychain Access and relaunch Safari. Navigate to the ally.com site and login. Click: Always Allow

If that didn't help...

Quit Safari

Open Keychain Access. (Applications/Utilities) Find the *"Safari AutoFill"* item. Delete it.

Relaunch Safari. Next time it asks for authorization, click "Always Allow".

That site requries JavaScript. Go to Safari/Preferences and select the Security tab. Make sure

Enable JavaScript is selected.

Read here about the difference between http and https. I noticed ally.com uses http. You might want to contact them and ask if they offer a "secure login" ...

Anytime you visit a financial web site where you do business, make sure it has the padlock icon
User uploaded file in the top right hand corner of the Safari window.
