Internal speaker in Ipod Nano 5th Gen doesnt not turn off

Hi all, the internal speaker on my ipod continues to play even when i've connected ear phones. The earphones are connected correctly, and i've even tried a different pair of ear phones and the same thing is happening. I have completed a restore using itunes, and the same problems occurs. I bought this yesterday so needless to say i am dissapointed. Anyone know what time the hours of tech support are?

I've got the same problem, brand new 5th gen nano, arrive yesterday - I can hear on internal speaker & head phones when the headphones are plugged in;
Volume control doesn't change headphone volume level, also when I go to the radio option it says "No Radio Signal, Please plug in headphones..."

Check manuals & searched for a settings, but having seen a number of others reporting this issue suspect it's a product problem...

The earphones must be pushed _*very hard*_ into the iPod. So hard, that the *white part of the plug must touch the iPod* in order for the external speakers to turn off. You will hear a click.

If you do a forum search, you will find this same solution. If it does not work, you will need to take your iPod to an apple store or call Apple. If you want to know the hours of Apple tech support, call them & you should get a recording telling you the hours in your country if calling after hours.

Thanks, wow you do have to push hard, much harder than all other ipods I had/have, and seems to be same regardless of which headphones I try.

Pity the support guys at apple didn't cover this (apple support are you listening), they took me through their reset & then all they could do was suggest I returned it.

One v disappointed birthday girl & cross Dad, & new ipod later I find it's just the same, glad I checked back here before further trouble.
