Trouble Scanning on HP Photosmart C4200 All-In-One-Printer
I'm running OS X Version 10.5.8 and I've never had to use the scanner until now. I'm connected via Airport Base Station and if I try to scan from HP Photosmart Studio my error is "Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)" If I press the scan button of the printer itself it tells me that "USB not connected".
Did you read somewhere that the scanning capabilities of that scanner were supported with the Airport. Unless something has changed, I am not sure that you can use Multifunction printers with the Airport Extreme or Express (accept for the print function of coarse).
Hmmm that's interesting. I thought about that too... I tried plugging the usb cable directly in the macbook but then everything just goes haywire. I'll try it again.
Introduction
USB-compatible HP products that support networking and/or optional Jetdirect print servers can print when connected to the USB port of a wireless router, such as the Apple AirPort Express and Extreme Base Stations. This allows you to print from other computers on the network that have Mac OS X 10.2.3 or later.
NOTE: Connecting to the USB port on a wireless router provides print functions only. Additional functions of the product, such as scanning or card slots, are not available.
Thanks for the feedback. WRT to wireless printing, there are newer AIOs that have wifi built-in. Thus, ours can't do it unless it's connected to some kind of wireless ext and, as you note, the scanning features probably won't work. Good computing.
I get the same problem with my MacBook Pro OS 10.6.2, directly connected via USB. Printing works fine but using the HP Device Manager produces the same error message. Odd thing is it works fine on another MacBook (not Pro) with OS 10.5.8. I just installed directly from the HP Photosmart C4200 series CD that came with the device. I checked for updates and informed that I'm up to date. Looks like HP needs to update the scanner drivers for OS 10.6.2
No need to start your own thread as you're dealing with scanning on the same identical printer. I believe any inormation here is could be of valuable to the OP.
Starting your own thread may benefit you better as you may get more feed back on your specific problem.
Please keep an eye on this thread and inform us of any progress with the scanning of the C4200 as it may help this poster solve their problem.
Works here with both Leopard and Snow Leopard, hooked up via USB, so wifi isn't a red herring. So, you have a different issue and aren't offering anything to the OP's issue.
So Biddy78, you said that you tried plugging the Scanner in USB and everything went haywire. What exactly do you mean? Did you get any errors messages? Did it lock up the Mac?
