Optical Connection

Hello
Had the Apple TV since Christmas and today decided to use the optical outlet. When I pushed in the optical lead it also broken the covering plastic flap and pushed it into the unit.......shreeeeeek. Managed to get it out with tweezers but can't see any optical light.
Guess this wont be covered by the guarantee but not very happy as it should not have happened !
Anyway, anyone think its worth contacting Apple on the off chance ?
Thanks
Steve

The flaps are designed to lift out of the way, they shouldn't break off if the cable connector is inserted with normal pressure. Unless the OP admits to securing the connector in place with a hammer, I'd still say it's defective.

i managed to break mine by trying to insert the cable slightly off centre thus when i removed the cable again it brought the flap out with it. it really took very little force to do it.

it happens and by no way means that the port we defective. it was user error in my case.

not every fault is a design or manufacturing fault even though you would like to suggest so.

The flap shouldn't break off under normal use, so I would advise the OP to return his defective ATV.

misuse is not the responsibility of apple though. i have given an example where it is very easy to dis-lodge the plastic flap. whether you believe that to be a design issue or due to hitting with a hammer as you suggested is really up to you.

neither you nor i know what caused this to break, however your constant attitude that it has to be defective or a design flaw is tiresome. not every issue is due to a design or defective unit and you must realise this.

again, you don't know that is was done via normal use. the OP could have inserted the cable at a funny angle (just like i did very easily).

you're like a stuck record sometimes. what's on the b-side ?
