No Network access: NSPOSIXErrorDomain:1

I can't do anything that requires internet access--I can't access any websites in Safari, check for software updates, access email using Mac Mail, nothing.

In Safari, I get an error message saying "Operaiong could not be completed. Operation not permitted" (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:1) Please choose Safari > Report Bugs to Apple, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message. (As for what I did before I saw this message, I can only answer, "I turned my back while my toddler was near my laptop... 😟. )

I get a similar message in Mac Mail; in Firefox, just a message saying it can't access the webpage; in software update, nothing at all.

I've looked for answers online; nothing seems to help. It does not seem to be a networking issue; according to Network Diagnostics my connection "appears to be working normally" and the other computers in the house can connect just fine. Nor is it restricted just to Safari, unlike most of the other NSPOSIXError discussions I've found. (I tried reinstalling Safari just in case, but it didn't help.)

Any thoughts? Would reinstalling the OS fix it, do you think? And if so, what do I need to do/know before I take a drastic step like that? (Don't be afraid of talking down to me 🙂.)

Thanks for the suggestion. I was having the same issue as others here (a pulling my hair out trying to figure it out)...Ethernet connected and operational, but Mail or browsers couldn't access the Internet. This suggestion for removing NetNanny worked for me. Although in my case I had ContentBarrier installed. Tried using AppDelete to remove it, seemed as though it worked, but found out now that it left A LOT of residual files. I had to use the original ContentBarrier installer to remove the app and all of the associated files. Restarted the my iMac and was back up and running again.

This is caused by Norton settings. Go to the Norton menu, choose norton firewall and disable application blocking and disable location awareness.

I got the same problem : NSPOSIXErrorDomain:1. I use safari version 7.0.4, OS X 10.9.3. I also have virus barrier 10.6.18. My problem is that I can only access virus barrier by a small icon on my top right tool bar, but everything is locked in that icon. In finder, virus barrier is nowhere to be found. I'd like to try everything I read here, but I'm in a dead end.... Can anyone help me out? Tks

I just had this same problem occur. It only happened in Safari (as far as I know); I still had internet access in Google Chrome. I went to check my Norton firewall setting, and was told that Norton was no longer running and needed to reset my computer. I did that, and everything is working fine; no errors with Norton and no more connection issue with Safari.

I Had the same issue for me it was Norton antivirus causing it. it wasn't recognizing my location so it didn't let me access the Internet at all.

what I did was go to search on the top right corner. Then type /settings/extensions Then delete symfire, file security, syminternetsecurity. And then restart your computer.

Running 10.11 El Capitan; I got this message. Connection to router was OK, but something was blocking the communication. I run Norton for Internet Security. I turned off all Internet Security features in Norton (including firewall, visited websites and advanced). I restarted the MacBook Pro (mid 2010); checked internet connection - all OK (App Store, iTunes, browsers and mail); then enabled Norton's Internet Security - everything still OK. I have no idea how it got messed up.
