I have a chair with metal legs and after sitting at the computer for a while when I go to get up I get a shock from the chair. If I have a sock rolled down and keep my foot in contact with the chair static doesn't build up.
When I built my first pc I was advised to grab hold of the metal part of a screwdriver to get eliminate static before handling motherboards/memory etc. Try picking up a screwdriver then pick up your ipod. Not sure if it will work or not but you could maybe try holding a coin if you dont want to carry a screwdriver around with you everywhere.
Good luck.

Okay...now that I've stopped laughing (it is just a tad funny, after all) take it back to Apple and have them look at it. There is something not right here, and I can't just "charge" (pun intended) it off to static electricity. This could be a sign of battery issues, and it's not something to mess around with.

I'm laughing too but only because he keeps claiming an iPod can shock him. This is almost like the bogus YouTube videos of people cooking eggs with cell phones.

Static is the only thing it could be... anything else would be outside of physical reality... unless, of course, his iPod is connected to one end of a bare lamp cord plugged into the wall... but that would be silly.

If he had only claimed it was getting hot and burning him, then it would be somewhat plausible.

I find people tend to describe "getting a shock" for the following...

1. Simple static discharge.

2. A short circuit which causes blue flashing, heat, noise, melting plastic, smoke & sparks. Although scary to some people, "seeing" a short is not the same as "being" the short.

3. A sharp & sudden noise.

Unless somebody altered the internals of this iPod to behave more like a high voltage stun-gun than a music player, there is no way the 3.7 volt, 789 mAh battery is shocking him.

Even if he just "thinks" it's shocking him, then by all means RUN to the Apple Store... don't spend days posting here where nobody can do anything.

...which is what I said a few posts ago. Take it back to Apple

Doc

Oh, I know you did.

But I only repeated it to show that I'm not heartlessly advocating the OP's untimely electrocution.
