Merge apple id's, me.com and itunes account?

Hi

I got about 7 or 8 different accounts with apple i.e.
Apple id
itunes account
mobile me
.mac

Is there anyway of merging these into one? or at least some of them?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2), imac 24"

arrggh, it seems the above plan doesn't quite work, as even when you have set up you old account to have an @me.com address, there seems to be no means to make the @me.com address you primary email address for that account, as every time you try to you get the same error message as when trying to change an old Apple ID to use an old @me.com address, so obviously they've not updated their verification logic to cope with this. Hopefully this is a lot more likely to be resolved, I'll try and explain this to Apple Support, and see if it gets to someone who understands the issue.

Another problem is that my mac on lion 10.7.2 won't let me enter an iCloud accound and MobileMe account at the same time which makes it impossible to use two apple IDs…

We just need to be able to merge IDs. When apple forced us to create multiple IDs (because joining MobileMe was impossible without), they should fix the issues resulting from that.

You can use one appleid, or both. Using one appleid is recommended. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895

You can't use only one if you already have a me.com address, as you can't change the non me.com Apple ID to a me.com address as it already exists as an Apple ID in it's own right.

(I'll be impressed if anyone can understand that!)

Slow down: "THE ID that you made ALL the purchases with"?

But there was never any reason before to make sure that music purchases and app purchases were made with the same ID:

  • Apple set up two distinct stores (iTunes vs app store)
  • Those stores initially launched on different platforms (Mac vs iPhone) with no sign of cross-over,
  • Some apps I could count as business expense, but not any music purchases
  • Long-time users were bound to have 2 AppleIDs given how .mac accounts were originally launched...

So it was perfectly reasonable to handle the accounts in parallel, with different payment methods, etc.

I realize my iTunes media files can be authorized on multiple machines, but home-sharing, re-downloading, and other features have become a nuissance, and I stumble up against "wrong AppleID" alerts quite frequently now...

This is a systemic fumble on Apple's part.

Um, you slow down...if you read my post, I was talking to Somian from a post before....Somian made all his purchases with one account.

Somian, did you initially transition to iCloud using your mobileme account or did you open an iCloud account with a non-me.com email address?

Spandrelf,

No need to apologize, not a big deal, but thanks. :O) Just was pointing it out that my comments were specific to Somian. I do feel your pain. I have the same situation for myself. I agree, Apple fumbled. But I feel optimistic it will eventually all work out. Have a great day!

It wasn't directed at you personally, they were obviously venting. Let it go like you would in RL. I am having the exact problem he is describing and would like to hear what he has to say.

Markawa,

Trust me, I don't take things personally. It was directed at me because he mentioned my name so I responded. All is good. Hey, how about you MYOB?

Let it go. ;O)
