itunes 64 bit version srtill shows *32 in Win7 64bit

I think this has been answered before, but I couldn't fine the confirmed answer.

I have used the iTunes64Setup.exe file to install iTunes on my Win7 Pro 64bit.

But running iTunes still shows a *32 in task manager. This is still whats meant to happen?

I know *32 means running in 32bit mode, but why is iTunes doing this even with the 64bit installer.

*Note I dont have any issues, its just bugging me*

Crikey ... well, all your other folders are in the right place for a 64-bit iTunes 9.0.2.25 install. I suspect that the only thing that didn't update correctly was AMDS. (If everything is currently working fine, though, I'd be inclined to *leave it as it is* ...)

Just out of curiosity, let's check to see what the file version on that AppleMobileDeviceService.exe is ... right-click on the file and select "Properties". In the version tab, what version is showing for you?

A reminder that some things aren't 64-bit, like QuickTime, while others are slowly creeping in that direction (Java), but not Flash (luckily, because seems IE8 64-bit runs better as do most browsers, when they don't have to deal with Flash and other plug-ins).

It actually took a rather long time for a 64-bit iTunes that worked with Vista, worked with iTunes library on RAID0 or booted from hardware RAID.

Oh, and if you run into installer issues, the MS Installer Cleanup Utility really helps (and might want to carefully give CCleaner a shot).

Download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
We have updated Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. This version of Windows Installer CleanUp Utility works correctly in all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows.

Yep. We covered that earlier on in the thread. Here's the salient points again:

+The current state of play is that in the 64-bit installer bundle (for iTunes 9.0.2.25), Apple Mobile Device Support is completely 64-bit. Some of the BonJour componentry is 64-bit (there's a 64-bit version of at least one of the dlls, I think). The iTunes miniplayer (the thing that lives in the TaskBar) is 64-bit, and the iPod Service Module has now gone 64-bit.+

+QuickTime, Apple Application Support and Apple Software Update are all completely 32-bit. Bonjour and iTunes are almost-all/mostly 32-bit.+

AppleMobileDeviceService.exe - File Version: 2.50.39.0

Yeah, that's an older version. Older than the one that shows up in the iTunes diagnostics run we did earlier. Somehow, you've ended up with a "hybrid" installation of 9.0.2.25.

I'd *really strongly* advise leaving things as they are if they're working fine for you, Felix. AMDS installation troubleshooting on 64-bit systems is desperately tricky at the moment, and I've had very poor luck with helping people with it. I think better to leave gthe exotic-but-working setup in place rather than risk getting into a horrible AMDS-not-installing-at-all tangle.
