iPod Classic 80gb won't sync past certain limit and freezes computer.

Title says it all. Freshly formatted and restored. I went to sync it and it got to around 8gigs of music and then froze. I tried to eject it through iTunes and it froze. Eject through finder, and finder froze, eject through Disk Utility, froze. I can't eject it. It won't sync. What do I do?

Thanks for quick reply. Hope you will be my saviour.

Temperatures are 5-45 °C.

So I need to get rid of that pending sectors? So DFU restores and formats over and over again until I get 0 pending sectors? And if after some time they'll appear again? Disc is dying or is it normal?

You know I'm quite happy that I have there now about that 15gb, I can travel by mass transportation for a while and now format it again. OK, I'll try... 🙂

PS: I forgot to mention that only thing which was a little help was restoring in Windows format. It helped me to get there 15gb, in Macintosh format I couldn't, just various from 5-7gb.

If the restore/format does what it is supposed to do the numbers should change from

Realocs: 601

Pending sectors: 3

to

Realocs: 604

Pending sectors: 0

Of course there may still be other bad areas of the disk yet to be discovered. The iPod's firmware doesn't perform any post-write validation. It is assumed all data is written properly and any issue only comes to light when the data is read back again. If a problem sector is part of the audio data for a song then, after a few attempts to re-read the data, the iPod will skip to the next track. If the data that cannot be read is part of the database, or a folder, or perhaps the artwork cache, then the consequences are likely to be more severe. Updating an iPod requires many updates to the database on the device as tracks are added to it. Any problem reading back this data is likely to cause the whole sync process to fail, leaving the device in an inconsistent state.

..firstly kubajz, your sarcasm isnt going to help me..

..second, i asked turingtest2 about 3 separate things..if you would take time to comprehend each post, i only updated as i went along.. to keep him informed and also that i have found an answer to one of my questions...if my spelling is bad, its because my wireless board *****,and i tend to abbreviate, which i'm sure mr. turingtest2 will slightly understand....

...and because i thought it was him repling, i can update again...

...the ipod works, as long as i keep the upload to 1 band at a time ( granted, 50 lp bands like, aerosmith,ac/dc, stones are divvied up )...

...thank you for posting your knowledge that saves grief and money ( fork out plenty for the device itself, nevermind the quid for help ?! )...cheers !!

sorry, I just couldn't resist that temptation:D

and now I realized that it's just corrupted disc in iPods after few years. I thought many times that it's ok now with mine but after time it failed again. Sometimes after few minutes, sometimes few days but it happened over and over again for many times. I'm struggling with that about year and half, tried really everything... Don't want to **** you again, just telling the truth:)

have a nice day, night or whatever

PS: about that keyboard, using bluetooth mouse instead of wireless and don't have tv controller near always helped me, don't ask me how (mainly about that tv controller:D) but it helped

Defraging the iPod's drive isn't really necessary, and it won't help if the drive has developing corruption. If the number of reallocs is relatively modest, which I would say 1022 is, and it doesn't get worse over time then the drive is probably OK for now. The "Break Up Large Transfers" method may work better than one artist at a time when rebuilding.
