No Sound in iTunes.

Hello, I'm running OSX 10.6.2 and my iTunes app has recently refused to... well, play tunes. The play header moves, but there's no sound on music or movies. I checked the volume slider, it's all the way up. I've tried deleting and reinstalling. I thought maybe deleting and restoring from my Time Capsule would work, but no go. iTunes has no sound.

Any ideas as to why? Thanks in advance.

I was having the same problem!! It was driving me crazy and just realized the problem....

The little speaker icon in the windows taskbar, down right corner next to the clock. Well, mine is in spanish, but if you right click on it, says something like sound mixer or equializer and there a volume bar for every program, itunes, spotify, explorer, etc. For some reason my itunes one was down to zero....

Problem solved!!

When I updated to Itunes Version 10.6.1.7 itunes would show that the song was playing but no sound. Had sound in all other programs.

Solution:

Open itunes.

On the bottom right you will see an icon that looks like a square with a shaded triangle in it. (when you put your curser over it "Choose which speakers to use" pops up.

Click on this icon and make sure that "My Computer" is checked. If it isn't this is your problem.

This should resolve your issue.

And here's yet another variation on No Sound in iTunes:

Downloaded a purchased TV show from the iTunes store - video played, but no audio. Music in iTunes played fine, and all other sound apps worked fine. Could find nothing wrong with speaker selection, iTunes volume, OS volume setting or Sound Preferences.

Based on a comment earlier in this thread, tried right-clicking on the TV show name in the iTunes listing, then selected Get Info, then went to Options and changed Volume Adjustment from 0% to 100%. Works fine now, but I'm left wondering what the -100% setting in Options could possibly mean (does it actually suck sound out of the air?) and how it got set, apparently randomly, to 0%.

So here we are in 2012 (note this thread is several years old) and iTunes is still easily the worst piece of ..... software that Apple has ever produced. Speaking as a 30-year Apple user, there is no excuse for the shoddy user interface, weak search functions (especially in the Store), seemingly random control options and comical DRM. Oh, and startling lack of support (or concern) from Apple. I've taken to avoiding iTunes at all possible costs.

I couldn't get any of my sound on my itunes music to work or even to hear samples in the itunes store. I finally got it to work thanks to one of the posts here.

Go to a movie you have saved and play it. I had to turn down the volume and turn it back up. Now go back to your music and try any song. My sound amazingly works in my music and the store again.

What a weird glitch. ....Maybe someone from Apple will fix this annoying terrible glitch!

I've had a similar glitch that I just can't figure out. All the solutions above don't apply for I'm aware of all those problems.

Basically while on shuffle from a playlist (the only time I've really noticed it) itunes will stop outputing sound to either the computer output or airplay. It seems to happen when it goes to a new song, and the play progress bar continues as if it's playing. I found that when I use the rewind button to start the song over again magically the sound it there again.

My suspicions are that it may be a problem accessing my external HD where my music files are kept.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I'm now having exactly the same problem. One song will finish and there's a long silence, like it's one of those stupid tracks that continue in silence long after the music has ended (why do they do that? It only annoys listeners, it isn't clever, it's puerile). Anyway... on investigating, it turns out that the next track has started playing but there's no volume. This has only started happening recently on my PC running the latest incarnation of iTunes - very annoying.
