The iPhone will not show up under My Computer unless you have photos on the Camera Roll. The Camera Roll is a special section of the iPhone that acts as a Digital Camera device to your computer. Thus shows up as a Camera/Scanner like any other camera for taking photos off. When there are no photos, it doesn't signal to the computer that there is a camera attached.

I have the same problem with my PC, Windows XP, does not recognize my iPhone. It does notice the photos on my iPhone, but I have the early version of iTunes, 4.0, on my computer and it will still not recognize my phone. I want to be able to manage my music on my computer and it will not work. I have contact Apple support and I was told I needed the latest version of iTunes. My computer is not connected to the Internet, actually I discontinued my Dial up networt because it was very slow.
I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, 9.0 to my jumpdrive and tried to download it om my computer and it does not work. I thought I would be able to connect my iPhone to my computer and print out emailed documents sent to my phone. What can I do?

CAN ANYONE HELP WITH MY ISSUE!!!!!!!!!

I had a Blackberry Curve and exchanged it for the iPhone 3G because the Curve had issues downloading certain websites and was slow. When I got the Curve, it came with a CD for the computer, but no CD came with the iPhone 3G. The whole purpose of switching to the iPhone was that the Internet was faster than the Curve and my computer; therefore, I exchanged the phone and discontiued my Internet service on my computer. My understanding when I got the iPhone, I would be able to do anything with it when I connect it to my computer, such as manage my music, photos, and print documents, especailly documents that are emailed to me. Is there any solution for this?

You can use your computer to manage music, photos and documents. You cannot print documents from the iPhone. But if you look at the technical specifications for the iPhone it says you need a computer with an Internet connection. You can create documents on the iPhone with QuickOffice or DocumentsToGo, transfer them to your PC via WiFi and print them from the PC. So you don't need an Internet connection all the time, but you need it sometimes to install updates and new versions of iTunes.

*Windows system requirements*

** PC with USB 2.0 port*
** Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later*
** iTunes 8.2 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)*
** iTunes Store account*
** Internet access*

I understand that I cannot print from my iPhone, but I am not understanding about how I can transfer my documents and music. I have no problem with my photos showing up on my computer from my iPhone. So my home computer needs Internet connection in order for me to tranfer documents and music. I had documents to go on my iPhone, but I could not transfer documents to my computer. I known I am making something so simple to do into one big problem! Also, what is the WiFi connection and it's purpose? I am confused about the WiFi. Can't I go to a friend that has Internet connection on their computer and download the program to put on my computer so that my computer will recognize my iPhone? I about to throw either my iPhone or computer out the window! I thought the iPhone was suppose to be a Smart Phone, appearantly it is Smater than me.

Thanks for your response and help!

NO. Your home computer needs an Internet connection to install iTunes and to update your phone's firmware when an update becomes available.

Yes, you can certainly use a friend's Internet connection to install iTunes and updates.

WiFi is a wireless local area network. Most computers sold in the past 5 years have it built in. When you connect your computer to a WiFi hotspot you can access the Internet wirelessly through that connection and the hotspot's connection to the Internet. There are millions of places you can take your computer to get a WiFi connection, such as Starbuck's, Panera Bread, most libraries, etc. Once connected Docuements to Go can use that connection locally to exchange data with your computer.

If you don't have a wireless network to connect to you can create what is called an ad hoc network between the iPhone and your computer. Check your computer's manual or search the Internet (from your phone, of course, or go to a library) to learn how to set up an ad hoc network.
