I spent a whole lot more on my car than I did on my iPod. Honda did not include a method of tracking it. I could, of course, purchase additional equipment that would allow me to track it but, that would be my responsibility, not Honda's.

Apple owes us nothing! It is a company that manufactures very good electronics, that also has people called stockholders. They tend to employ some fine people who care about their work and the finished product...but once it's ours, the company owes us nothing save some service. They provide product, we buy and use it. +That is how a business works.+

After all that I have said above, Apple has created a way to track an iPod touch and/or iPhones. It's called "MobileMe", and it's $99 a year. +You have to install it before you lose your iPod/iPhone,+ and then it has to be turned on (and in the case of the touch, near a wi-fi source.

I have my iPod lock and passcode turned on. But I also use a nice FREE app called "If Found". It puts a customizable desktop picture on the iPod Touch. I put a telephone contact and "Reward if returned" on the page also. Now whenever the iPod is awakened a nice, simple picture with contact info and the enticement of a reward appears on the screen!

My husband had an mail address engraved onto his new iPod Nano when we ordered it.

I once listened to a podcast and the very techie guys who travel with lots of expensive gear put contact info on all their equipment. Their feeling was they stood a better chance of getting misplaced gear back if that contact info was very visible.

Nothing will stop a thief. But there is no way for an honest person to return found iPods, etc. if there is no contact info.
