G5 PPC June 2004 Dual 2.5 GHz
5GB RAM
1TB WD + 2TB WD
OS 10.5.8

I feel like I'm resetting NVRAM & PRAM almost daily now. I checked (and will double check the RAM and it appears fine. Any thoughts from the strands above?

Macbook 13" Aluminum, MacBook Pro 17" HD, G5 2.5 Dual PPC, and a G4, Mac OS X (10.6.2), 2.4 GHz, 4GB RAM on each.

Yes. The drive is formatted Mac OS. I was able to get it to load via USB attached to my Airport Extreme and back up the entire system. Albeit slower (for now), I am backed up (finally).

The new PRAM battery should be shipped here in a day or so from OWC.
The more and more I observe how the G5 acts, the more it "acts" like something with a spent battery.
I'll keep you all posted.

On the comical side for a chuckle:
I went to Radio Shack looking for a 3.6 V Li half AA battery.
I asked the "expert" sales kid to simply point me in the direction of the batteries.
He/She (not sure which it was) insists on looking it up on the computer and says "what is it for?"
I cringe and say "Its a PRAM battery for a Mac G5." (I barely got G5 out before I got...
"Oooh, that will be special order probably."
I respond, "It's not an uncommon part. Can you just point me in the direction of the batteries and I'm sure I'll find it. It's used in alot of older 35mm cameras."
Again... more pushback. "Well, it's kinda vague, I'm not really sure where to point you."
Totally frustrated I spot it right next to the kid... literally biting him in arse.
I point directly at it and say "THAT ONE. Give me THAT ONE."
To his/her surprise, I was 110% right on the money. He/She rings me up...
$21.95.
OMG! Are you nuts?!?
I simply and politely reply "No thanks, I'll pick it up from OWC for $4.95."

I was able to pay for battery + shipping + Sushi for less than Radio Shack's price.
Sad.

hatter... I've had nothing but good experiences with my WD Internal drives...
And the smaller portable drives are cheap and quickly replaceable at Best Buy. I generally only use them for extra space when we're filming/backing up HD underwater video in a remote location. They served great as an additional test drive for this particular situation.

But for the G5... Once I get the regular/random shut down thing figured out, my next buy for system backup is going to be the 4TB eSATA RAID 1 Mercury drive.

I tried REMBER, and it couldn't even get through 1 iteration... gray restart screen.

I'm really beginning to believe that one of the original RAM sticks I got the machine with (upgraded to 1+1 GB by original owner) that might be fouled. The PRAM battery has given me about 20 hours straight of run time... but I got another gray restart screen.

Time to start pulling & testing different RAM stick (I am confident my new OWC ones are in good shape).

Fingers crossed & head banging against wall.
