I am on 10.6 Snow Leopard. I have a HP PhotoSmart 1115 Printer and it loaded a CUPS-Gutenprint 5.4 printer driver. It's a shared printer on my wife's iMac. Everything works fine. Problem is it wont print grayscale. I have a page I want to print and it has a color graphic in it, it doesn't print (the graphic) at all, just blank where the graphic is? How can I get it to print grayscale? I only have a black ink cartridge in the printer. I do not want to print color.

Well, I have no experience with HP printers, but my Epson will not print at all if any ink cartridge is empty/missing. I believe I read somewhere that anything but pure black requires some - if only tiny - amount of color. That could be an explanation for your problem - you might want to try after installing the appropriate color cartridge(s).
My color Epson won't print anything even just black if I don't have all the color cartridges installed. I think that's stupid. But on a strictly B&W printer it should give you a checkbox to "Print color as Grayscale. All the HP B&W lasers I have ever used gave me this option. Think the inkjets did too. I personally hate HP printers.
I just checked and in the print dialog box for my epson, Under "Color" I get a choice of color or Grayscale. It took me a while to find this. Check all the possible settings in the print dialog box and I'll bet there's a grayscale option.
Thanks. After some digging I found the setting under Printer Features in the print set up window. A whole new window opened with a bunch of settings, including Grayscale!
