had all the latest software. Computer would freeze every time i connected my ipod. My hard drive was clicking.
I tried everything. Disable antiVir software. When I put in orig cd, I had itunes 6 and latest updaters installed. Insert orig, let it run, connect ipod when it asks, be patient... it did it for me, must have been to do with ipod software being corrupt, now I have orig software on it but running itunes 6

hi renee!

I just got a new toshiba laptop and after I downloaded the itunes software, I tried connecting my ipod to my new laptop and everytime I connect the ipod to my computer, my computer freezes.

given that you've got a Toshiba, it would be a good idea to check up on this possibility:

iPod not recognized correctly on Toshiba laptop

... and this is also worth checking:

iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB

OK. Here's the final chapter on my iPod situation.

I knew that iTunes 4 worked when I re-installed that & un-installed iTunes 6. So this morning I decided enough screwing around I'll just re-load 4 & be done with it.

This time when I un-installed the programs I deleted iPod Updater, iPod for Windows & iTunes 6. (I think originally I deleted iTunes 6 only.)

I re-install my original software that came with my iPod, go to hook up the iPod & I get an error message that says, "Cannot communicate with your iPod & I needed to update." I said OK. I re-downloaded iTunes 6 again (with the iPod connected) & installed it. I get another message that says, "My iPod is linked to another music library & did I want to replace the music on my iPod?" Which is odd since my iPod has ONLY been on my computer. No other iPod has ever been hooked up to it nor has my iPod been on anyone elses computer.

Currently it seems to be updating, AND not crashing the system.

I don't know what or why, but it seems to be updating & working now. I've got 6700+ songs on mine so the update is taking a while. I'll re-post later to see if everything transferred & is working.

The iPod Updater freezes when the iPod connects. I tried all my USB ports, I tried to reset the iPod, I turned it to Disk Mode, etc.,

have you checked up on this issue yet laebeth_lavindule?

iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB

even though you don't have a Toshiba, it's also worth trying this technique:

iPod not recognized correctly on Toshiba laptop

(i've seen reports of this technique working on other makes too ... however you would be the first reported case of this happening on a thinkpad.)

I get a blue screen and the error number is 0x000000019.

good lord, AKS1 ... you're getting a BADPOOLHEADER? ... that's a blast from the past ...

what version of itunes did you upgrade from? was it a 4.x? what antivirus packages do you have on that PC?

... i'm trying to work out if you're having the first version of this problem that i've seen in months:

Windows restarts or goes to a blue screen after installing iTunes 5

keep us posted.

I have the 3g ipod 20gb. I am on windows xp sp2 and this all started when i updated my ipod and itunes software a few weeks ago. I uninstalled my ipod software last night and reloaded with my original disk. That didn't work. I was wondering if i took all my itunes and ipod software off my comp and tried again from scratch, would that erase all my music? It is stored on my c: drive. But, i am really scared I will have to reload all my CDs onto my computer again if i erase.

Thanks!
AKS

Issue number one was delt with as I changed the settings of my USB ports. It did nothing. I tried the USB ports on my sister's computer (PC on which an iPod nano runs just fine) and I froze her comp too. Lastly, I tried the firewire port on me dad's pc and made it freeze as well. I'll attempt to format and delete the partition on my iPod with knoppix as suggested by mythic.

Thanks for this link! Me and me dad will be working on this tomorrow morning. The outlook is much brighter than it was 2 days ago.

I've had my iPod since November 2004 but only started 'really' using it by the end of December the same year (eg uploading CDs on the comp, importing music, changing *.wav files to *.mp3 ones, etc.).
The skipping or not playing a song problems would happen, i'd say, on a weekly basis, and only since about June this year.
It also happened once that my iPod stopped playing music suddenly but the hard drive would keep on spinning and did so until I ran out of batteries. I was quite freaked out that once but afterwards I didn't seem to have any further problems (for a time).
I add songs on it about once a month (average) and I think it happened 3 times since January last year that I deleted the entirety of the iPod's content before uplaoding it again. I hope this will be of any help.

This is what I did. I reformatted my computer and lost everything, but when i reinstalled itunes and the ipod software I was still having the same problem, computer restarted when I opened itunes and connected my ipod. I took my ipod to an apple store and they hooked it up to their computers loaded music on and everything was fine for them. So when I came home I installed itunes, then restarted and ran a disc check to fix any errors, and it ran for a while so I am assuming there was a problem somewhere. I plugged my ipod back in and it said, ipod found but must format, download latest software and update ipod. I restored my ipod with the updater, restarted and am currently reloading all of my music. If you keep everything on your hard drive I would reccommend getting a cd or dvd burner to back everything up because it's a great help.

okay, zone alarm isn't one of the antivirus packages i associate with the antivirus driver incompatibility described in the BAD POOL_HEADER/BAD_POOLCALLER problem described in the Apple KB doc described above. but just in case, try searching for the driver described here:

Windows restarts or goes to a blue screen after installing iTunes 5

(people were getting this with some packages that came from their ISP.)

x7E

we'd better check up on one of the usual suspects with these two. do you have Easy CD Creator 5.0 installed on your PC? for some reason the following problem can flare up after an itunes install, and it has been known to hit people when they plug in their ipods:

Easy CD Creator 5.0 Does Not Function In Windows XP

hmmmm. are you sure you've got the spelling of that code right? there isn't a D0 (xero) or a DO (oscar). can you check through this reference to see if one of the TEXT_CODES rings a bell?

Hi B,

Happy New Year!

Answering your questions:

try searching for the driver

Did a general search and the file was not found. Should i try a different type of search?

do you have Easy CD Creator 5.0 installed on your PC

I don't appear to. Could it be under a different program name, etc?

are you sure you've got the spelling of that code right? there isn't a D0 (xero) or a DO (oscar). can you check through this reference to see if one of the TEXT_CODES rings a bell

I found this in your link: 0x000000D0: DRIVER CORRUPTEDMMPOOL.

Looking forward to more guidance!
