Okay. I think that rules out the NOD32 possibility.

Can you check something for me Eve? (This isn't going to be a cure in itself, but will give us a heads up on the most sensible way to proceed next with our troubleshooting.)

From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
Open Add or remove user accounts (If using the Classic View in Windows Vista, open User Accounts. Then open Manage another account).
Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process. (Give the new account full administrative rights.)
Once the new account is created, choose Log Off from the Start menu. Log into the newly created user account. (Don't use fast User Switching to move between accounts.)

Now try launching QuickTime in the new user account. Do you still get a -2095, or does QuickTime launch properly in there?

🙂 Okay ... not a program files thing then, because that would affect all user accounts. More likely to be preference files or user-account-specific registry entries.

Or just maybe an unorthodox compatibility mode issue? It does no harm to check, and the treatment for that is completely non-intrusive.

Log back into your normal user account please, Eve. Now, even though you've got a different error message number than the one given in the following document, try checking to make sure you've got nothing selected in your QuickTime compatibility mode tab, as per:

If any boxes were checked, and you uncheck them, does your QuickTime start launching properly again?

hi, I mentioned that I have the same error under Windows 7. I followed your advise in creating a new account and - believe it or not - Quicktime comes up and is working properly. So thanks for the advice.
One more amazing thing: I had a similar error code (455-E-1 HD Writer AE 1.0 requires a screen resolution of 1024x768 and 16 bit or more) for the Panasonic HD Writer AE 1.0. Just out of curiosity I tried to start this program under the new account and - believe it or not once more - it came up and is running.

Okay. We'll check on QuickTime preference files next, Eve. (Although, j's report of multiple errors in the the usual user account has me worried about the HKEY CURRENTUSER keys in the registry.)

Log back into your usual user account.

From the Start menu, click Open.
In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected and "Hide extensions for known filetypes" is unchecked.
Click OK.

Now, in Computer, open "Local Disk C:".
Open the "Users" folder.
Open the folder with the name of your usual user account.
Open the "AppData" folder.
Open the "Local" folder.
Open the "Apple Computer" folder.

Is there a QuickTime folder in there? If so, drag it out onto the desktop and try launching QuickTime again. Does it launch properly, or do we get anothe 2095?
