Battery life cut after 3.1.3 update on iPhone 3G

Ever since the update to 3.1.3, my battery life is about half. Last two days have had to charge halfway through the day.

Anyone else see issues with battery life, since update?

Macbook, iMac, iPhone 3G, Mac OS X (10.5.6), 4BG, 500GB

UPDATE:

The measures I took to rectify the problem, while initially effective (and seemingly successful), have NOT resolved my continued battery problems. I'm back to having to charge my 3G 2-3 times a day with only minimal to moderate usage.

I discussed the problem with AppleCare, telling the tech the steps I've already taken. He set up an appointment at my local Apple Retail Store where a Genius ran a diagnostic on the hardware and confirmed that the battery is fine: the problem is DEFINITELY software.

I didn't have ANY battery issues prior to the 3.1.3 update so I don't quite understand why one of my third-party apps is presumed to be the offending culprit draining my battery. This wasn't the case under 3.1.2.

So, for the first time in my over-20-year history with Apple products, I'm going to downgrade to a previous OS in the hopes of restoring my iPhone 3G to its pre-3.1.3 operational state without losing any app data since updating.

I can understand Apple not officially supporting ways to downgrade the OSes of their devices, but they should at least provide an option to selectively restore third-party apps and their respective data independently from each other and the OS. Either bring a version of Time Machine to the iDevice platform or extend the existing Time Machine's reach to include them (a logical move in light of the iPad).

iDevices (particularly iPhones) are more pocket computers than they are phones. This 3.1.3 headache, if nothing else, highlights the need for a more robust and versatile backup system than what's currently in place.

No, downgrading didn't work. I kept getting an error message. I found many sources online for downgrading the firmware and baseband, but the straight-forward ones didn't work and the others required that I jailbreak my iPhone, which I won't do.

Frustratingly, the very attempt to downgrade locked my iPhone in recovery mode, requiring me to do what I was trying to avoid: restoring the phone as new and losing all of my data. What a pain in the ***! Shopping Cards, Grocery Stores, everything GONE!! I still reserve the option of restoring from a previous backup, but that runs the risk of bringing forward the corruption that caused the problem in the first place. It's annoying having to reinstall all my apps again, but having to re-enter all my data for my truly USEFUL apps filled with account information really ****** me off.

Like I said in my earlier post, Apple really should extend Time Machine backup to iDevices (or offer a Time Machine-like backup option for iDevices).

This had better restore my 3G's battery life to the way it was before I originally upgraded to 3.1.3. Either way, lesson learned: I definitely WON'T be an early adopter of 3.1.4, or whatever Apple releases next. I'll wait a week or two and pay close attention to the boards.

I think that my normal battery life is as good as it was before the 3.1.3 update, if not better, but I do have a problem with an app that makes heavy use of GPS. This is RunKeeper which I use for tracking mountain biking and skiing. I have got as much as 6 hours use out of this app in the past, but now I'm lucky to get 2.5 hours without playing music, 3G on, but WiFi and Bluetooth off. Do any of you think that GPS is a common link here?

I'm not sure if my problem was the update or the phone. I had replace my phone due to some cracks it was having. Got the same kind of phone (3G) but had to update to 3.1.2 at the time. I notice my battery drained so much faster. On my old phone, I used to have Wi-Fi scan or "Ask to Join Network" ON, push for Mobile be ON and check other email account every 15 minutes and my battery would to last me all through the day and still have more than half of the batter life remaining 60-70%.

This new phone (now with 3.1.3) would go with 50 minutes of usage, and 3 hours of stand by be to less than half the battery. Even after turning off Wi-Fi scan, turning Push off and checking email every 30 minutes. This is 50 minutes of texting here and there, no video, no music and no talk time. I've taken screen shots of my battery usage and taking my phone to the apple store. I now have to carry a charger everywhere I go.

SergeyK, Google translator doesn't solve all of your problems.

I am having a similar issue with battery. Not as bad as only 3 hours of standby taking me into the red, but since 3.1.3 I've noticed a considerable decrease in battery life. 2 hours of music plus an hour and a half of real world use and 12 hours of standby is all my poor phone can take before it needs juice again. A lot less usage than when I was still using 3.1.2.
