iPhone 3GS OS 3.1.3 Battery percentage fail?

Hi there!
I recently updated my iPhone 3GS from OS 3.1.2 to 3.1.3.
I've experienced some bugs with this update. I will try to explain everything sience my other phones camera can't capture good pictures to show the problem.
Here we go:
First I power up my iPhone. Then when it starts up the battery percentage shows me that the battery has 67 percent left. Now comes the bug. After some seconds the battery percentage meter CHANGES to 78 percent. This has never happend before I updated. I am very happy with my iPhone 3GS and I feel pretty disapointed with this update.
I find this highly unacceptable sience it has basicly ruined the user experience because I can no longer tell how much power my battery has left in percent.
I hope that Apple or someone reading this topic can help me with this problem.
Also if i restore my iPhone 3GS, will it delete all my apps and saved data from the apps like high scores from the game "Doodle Jump"?

Recalibrate the battery gauge by running the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off, then charge until full (preferably 4 hours).

I always do a restore as new when I upgrade the firmware, and so far it has been a good experience. Have you tried the iPhone Configuration Utility? That software is incredible as it covers basically everything that iTunes can't handle! You define what (Email accounts, APN's, Wifi spots, etc.) you want to setup in profiles and then install the profiles on your iPhone within seconds.

i'm with you in that its not likely the battery just all of a sudden went bad, but rather the way the phone is utilizing it. but its not just the percentage because my phone runs excessively hot to the touch after the update to 3.1.3 and will deplete the battery to the point of shutting itself down and will not turn back on until its been on charge for several minutes. not simply the gauge there, its dead! i'm growing increasingly frustrated. through the magic of it killing itself repeatedly throughout the day i've 'recalibrated' the battery (which i think is absurd at best for a lithium based battery) several times with no apparent increase in battery life. i attempted to back up all my files today in order to perform a restore as suggested above only to be prompted to accept the user agreement for os 3.1.3! **** no i won't agree with it! its the very thing that started all my headache! i want rid of it! please apple, fix your fix! you broke what was working fine! least for me, and it seems a number of other users. if i don't hear some decent news towards a solution i'm taking this $300 paperweight back to at&t tomorrow to see what they suggest (not holding my breath!)

Greetings,

No problems with my 3G, or my wife's 3GS, after 3.1.3. The battery life is as advertised, so I have no complaints, actually I didn't have any before, but after 3.1.3, if anything it reports a larger percentage at the end of my day, than before.

The update took no more that 15 minutes, or so. The apps all work, etc. Whenever I do an upgrade on a phone, or Mac computer, I run the usual maintenance routines. On the iPhone, I shut it completely off for a minute or so, not just put it to sleep - this clears out any resource hogging from lingering apps, if you have any. Then turn it on and do the update. Never had a problem.

I also have all of the services on, except Bluetooth - I have no need for it, as I have never answered a cell phone while driving - that's stupid. Pull over, take care of business, and move along. No call is worth the risk of an accident.

All works as it is supposed to.

Cheers,
M.

I just bought 2 3gs, 16 gig, updated to 3.1.3, and, now, when I power off then on, the battery percentage drops 17 percent, then after 2 seconds corrects itself also!! Its a bug in the 3.1.3 update! UGGGGG!

My phone was working great until 3.1.3. I did a FULL RESTORE after much aggravation and was very sad to lose a ton of settings i spent a ton of time on. Even with this, my phone runs VERY HOT and as someone else said it now gets 3 -4 hours battery life tops and runs down even when it's in standby. The meter is not that erratic, but it runs down very fast. i did a full discharge and more. very frustrating.

I'm sure they did, and it works fine on the 2 dozen 3G and 3GS phones in my office, as I'm sure it did on all of the phones they tested on internally and also the hundreds of outside beta testers. If you have a problem there are a few things you can try: Reboot, then if you still have a problem run the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off, then charge for 4 hours. In the very unlikely event that this doesn't fix it restore it as a new phone. And if you still have the problem take it to an Apple store for exchange, as you have a defective phone.

it is the firmware, just because you know of iphones that are not having the problem, doesn't mean we should take our iphones back for refurbs..it can actually be apple's firmware you know, oh and with all those iphones you know of sit and actually look at some 3gs's and turn them on and watch the % jump from lower % to the right one when u unlock it
