iPhone 3GS OS 3.1.3 Battery percentage fail?

Hi there!
I recently updated my iPhone 3GS from OS 3.1.2 to 3.1.3.
I've experienced some bugs with this update. I will try to explain everything sience my other phones camera can't capture good pictures to show the problem.
Here we go:
First I power up my iPhone. Then when it starts up the battery percentage shows me that the battery has 67 percent left. Now comes the bug. After some seconds the battery percentage meter CHANGES to 78 percent. This has never happend before I updated. I am very happy with my iPhone 3GS and I feel pretty disapointed with this update.
I find this highly unacceptable sience it has basicly ruined the user experience because I can no longer tell how much power my battery has left in percent.
I hope that Apple or someone reading this topic can help me with this problem.
Also if i restore my iPhone 3GS, will it delete all my apps and saved data from the apps like high scores from the game "Doodle Jump"?

Recalibrate the battery gauge by running the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off, then charge until full (preferably 4 hours).

I do not have the 3GS, but I have a 3G that put this **** firmware update on my phone a few days ago when it was syncing... my battery life is horrid now. Between 1130 am coming off the charger to 10pm leaving work under normal use (I work in TV so I'm never talking during the day) maybe (2) 3 minute phone calls and a few texts no data usage etc. I (at 10pm) have 25% battery left. The phone was brand new circa December 28th.... I'm royally ******. How can I restore to the older firmware?

Battery life is significantly shorter after upgrading to 3.1.3 on a 3gs.

RF performance has suddenly become abysmal. Never dropped a call on this phone before the latest firmware update, now it happens continuously. Network connectivity (checking email, etc. routinely fails due to lack of connection). This is in a major metro area where coverage has always been solid.

Please fix 3.1.3 or provide a way to revert.

Lawrence why won't you accept that people have problems. My phone is 2 months old and im having the same problems as is a friend of mine. Do you work for apple or something as it sure sounds like you do. I spoke to Apple about this and they said that they have had several reports and think its something to do with the firmware so why dont you shut up and get your facts right

I'm experiencing this problem with my 3G (as well as the issue with smart playlists discussed in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2321810&start=0&tstart=0).

My symptoms are that my battery goes from basically full to empty in about 10 minutes.

This occurs after about 8 hours of normal operation. In the past, my iPhone has gotten me thru a full day at work with little or no battery drain.

Now it dies around 3PM. Oddly enough reconnecting to my PC fully recharges it in about 10-15 minutes. That tells me it probably wasn't actually very discharged and it is a software issue.

You haven't been reading my posts if you think that I don't accept that people have problems. People DO have problems, but it is a small number out of 60 million, and unless people with problems contact Apple directly and in great numbers Apple won't do anything about it because they won't be able to duplicate it to fix it. Ranting in this forum will not get Apple's attention; actually calling them or going to a genius bar has a much better chance of success.

I installed 3.1.3 and have noticed not problems. All of my apps, all 100+ of them, launch perfectly and the battery doesn't get hot either while the iPhone is being used or when it is idle.
Have you check your phone with an Apple Genius to make sure it's not the phone itself?
I haven't heard of anyone having problems like are being reported here.

Count me in as seeing weird battery percentages on my 3GS after upgrading to 3.1.3. When I turned off my phone and turn it back on sometimes the battery percentage goes down a few percentage points and sometimes it goes up a few percentage points. I haven't noticed shorter battery life, but the battery percentage is simply not all that accurate in 3.1.3 which is ironic considering that 3.1.3 was supposed to make the battery info more reliable on the 3GS.

I have noticed that the phone gets hot at times, but that happened under 3.1.2 as well. I believe that's related to location services, the phone's CPU usage skyrockets when GPS functionality is in use. The Location services daemon (background program) is supposed to stop running when it's not being used (shortly after closing an app that uses it), but sometimes it gets stuck running for several minutes or longer.

My iPhone battery life has deteriorated dramatically since the iPhone OS 3.1.3 update. I also feel as though 3G connectivity has decreased, but I can't evidence that.

To give an example of battery life, I charged to 100% at 10pm last night. I have not made a call today, I have sent one text, I have listened to about two hours of iPod and used apps for about half an hour. Now, 19 hours after 100%, I am at 4%. Prior to the update and with that pattern of use, I'd expect to be at about 50-60% by now.

Given the different opinions as to whether this problem really exists (I think it does!), here are my iPhone model details (from Settings > General > About):

OS Version 3.1.3 (7E18)
Carrier Orange UK 5.1
Model MC131B
Firmware 05.12.01

It would be useful if we could spot a pattern.
