Slow iTunes server ?

Yesterday I rented a movie (Inglorious ********) that took 6.5 hours to download to my Apple TV! Also, on my Mac (late 2006 MacPro Quad), I tried to download a 1.5 gig application that said it would take 4 hours according to the estimated time that was displayed. I had to cancel it.

This morning, my girlfriend is currently trying to download an episode of some show on her 27 inch 2009 iMac and it's telling her it will be ready in 13 hours... (now 15 since my last edit to this post)
It also took 5 hours for iTunes to download the new iPhone firmware update to her iPhone last night.

There does not appear to be any problem with my network as everything else network related feels fast as usual. Anyone else experiencing extremely slow download times involving the iTunes store?

My network uses a Time Capsule which has been trouble free for over a year now.

Thanks!

I have a 12Mbps connection through Comcast, and my speed from iTunes is definitely wonky. When downloading an HD TV show for example (which is two files, the HD and SD versions), the speed fluctuates wildly. I have iStat Menu installed and it shows the speed varying from < 2 Mbps to about 5.4 Mbps and it's constantly adjusting up and down.

I have a feeling that Apple is intentionally limiting bandwidth because their servers are under tremendous load. I'd rather that it saturate my connection, and get the download done a lot faster.

ya know, i switched to mac from windows about 2.5 years ago. the marketing was "everything works" and it did. i was a mac convert. now, this kind of stuff is really annoying, especially when slow download times from the iTunes store last not hours, but months. i wanted to watch a movie with my wife. iTunes rental is faster than going to the video store. the movie we wanted to watch is only available for sale...so i bought it...even though you don't get the special features you get with a dvd. and now, instead of 30-40 minutes for the download, I get 6 hours...so we can't watch the movie.

...oh, and we have a video store 5 minutes from where we live...actually 2.

next time...i will seriously consider just heading to the video store.

I've been having issues with content download through iTunes, mac software update, and apple tv for months now. My connection is plenty fast and I can stream HD through other providers. But for some reason my connection is pure crap when I try getting anything from apple. Have had absolutely no luck finding an answer or solution. Getting very annoyed with this, slow downloads take the whole convenience advantage away. no point to giving them my money.

We've got a load of Macs in this office, and I've noticed that we get the slow downloads on all our Leopards (10.5.8) and none of the Tigers (10.4.11). On all the Leopards it seems to download the 1st 1.5MB and then slow right down to a crawl. This is for iTunes downloads and Software Updates. I tested manually downloading some software updates over http from the apple support site (in safari) and I have no problems on any machines, so it is not an ISP or problem.
