Potential iPhone/ATT question.

Hello,

Currently I'm a Verizon customer looking to switch over to AT&T for of course the iPhone. Currently I have an iPhone 3G I fixed and bought from a friend, now my question is. If I activate this iPhone and sign a 2-year contract with AT&T, will my Phone Upgrade signing bonus be credited to my account since I didn't use it to begin with?

I ask this because, I would really like to start my service with AT&T now with my current iPhone, but I'm sure there will be a new one out in June, and if I have to pay full price for the next gen I will just have to wait it out. But if I can activate my service now, and save my upgrade for the next gen, that would be exactly what I would do.

Thank you in advance.

Since you didn't buy the phone from AT&T, you didn't get any subsidy from them. Thus when/if the new iPhone is released, you will qualify for any subsidy offered at that point.

I will qualify to get the new one at the subsidized price? Since I am not a new customer at that point will I have to wait a few weeks after release or does ATT let currents upgrade at the same point the phone becomes available to new contracts?

Thank you for your response, as I called an AT&T sales rep, and she had no idea what I was trying to ask. I explained it to her three times, and she still had no idea, sometimes I feel if I know more about their job then they do.

If they do it they way the did it for the 3G and the 3GS launch, they will allow current customers to upgrade on the first day. Its not a promise, mind you, but its more than likely.

Yes.

" Since I am not a new customer at that point will I have to wait a few weeks after release or does ATT let currents upgrade at the same point the phone becomes available to new contracts"

If you are eligible for upgrade, which you would be, you get the subsidized price. You may buy whenever you like.
