Back up - trying to install Iomega eGo portable hard drive

I am trying to upgrade from Panther to Leopard. I bought an Iomega eGo portable hard drive to back up my files before I do the upgrade. I followed the instructions to reformat the Mac drive but when I am in the Disk Utility - Erase - the "Volume Format" does not highlight so I can't do anything. Any suggestions? Iomega support is closed on Sundays and I really wanted to get this done today! Thanks for your help.

I can't thank you enough for your meticulous instructions re my upgrade. I found the initial installation nerve wracking so gave myself a break. Have now completed the full upgrade and can access again what I need.

The only problem I am left with is scanning on my all in one HP psc 1350. I lost the scan facility with the upgrade so downloaded new driver; I don't like the Photosmart suite I now have, it doesn't scan mixed documents properly. I liked the HP Director (v 7.1.4) I had but am told the Communications application is not running; do you know any way around this? Or do I need to buy new. HP of course haven't replied to my complaint.

Anyway, again many thanks.
