ituens doesn't open. qtcf.dll error. tried everything

I downloaded a qtcf.dll file from thei nternet and put on my desktop, in the Windows foldar, and also in the system32 folder.

Let's first remove those three files, tidus. Having a QTCF.dll lurking about in unorthodox places on the PC can actually cause errors.

I also get a startup error too related to ituneshelper.exe

That suggests you're getting a rare version of the QTCF.dll error caused by a damaged Apple Application Support. (If AAS is broken, sometimes iTuneshelper isn't able to launch either.)

Open your C:\Windows\sysWOW64\ folder. Do you find a copy of the QTCF.dll in there? If so, drag it out onto the desktop, and try launching iTunes again. Do you still get the error?

Interesting. Maybe two different problems happening at once? It sounds like the AAS reinstall may have fixed the iTunesHelper issue.

Try doing an all files and folders search of the PC for QTCF.dll, looking throughout all internal and external drives, searching in system, hidden files and non-indexed files. (Sorry, I don't have a Windows 7 box here to refer to, so I can't give you precise instructions on how to do that ... but I can tell you that the search is going to take a long time.)

How many copies of QTCF.dll do you find, and what are the file locations for each one?

I am also getting the error message: "The procedure entry point QTCF_CFUniCharGetUnicodePropertyDataForPlane could not be located in the dynamic link library QTCF.dll."

I found two copies of the QTCF.dll files as follows:
QTSystem (C:\Program Files\QuickTime)
System32 (C:\Windows)

What should I do from here?

Drag the copy of QTCF.dll out of the system32 folder and onto the Desktop. Now try launching iTunes again. Does it launch properly this time?

Have you ever had a copy of QuickTime Alternative installed on that PC? It can spray QTCF.dll in odd places on the PC, and also uses the same Registry entries as QuickTime. So it's plausible that the Registry is currently looking in the wrong place for the file, because it's confused by leftover QT Alternative registry entries.
