Panasonic GF1 RAW missing from Aperture 3

I see there are a few cameras missing from Aperture 3 that has been in LR for a while now, like Panasonic GF1, Olympus PEN, Leica M9. Hopefully a new RAW update comes soon.

But, since the GF1 one is very simialr to G1 and GH1, I wonder why they didn't just include it...

I just looked it up, the file you need is called Raw.plist

you will find it in this location :

hd > system > library > coreservices > RawCamera.bundle

you need to do a "show package contents" on the RawCamera.bundle, and inside this file go to this location :

Contents > Resources

There you will find the file Raw.plist

Be sure to make a backup of the RawCamera.bundle before you edit the Raw.plist file inside.
If anything goes wrong you can still go back.

If the GH1 and GF1 are so similar, I'm sure Apple will be releasing an update very soon to support it, but if you can't wait, try to edit the file I mentioned.

To recap...

This it not recommend unless the person doing it knows what they are up to...

2 files needs to be edited (back them up first)

1. hd/System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle/Contents/Resources/Raw.plist

Edit it with the plist editor, and change the GH1 to GF1

2. hd/System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle/Contents/MacOS/RawCamera

Edit it with a hex editor and search for all instances of GH1 and change them to GF1

Viola! Restart Aperture 3 and you can now load GF1 raw into Aperture 3.

NOTE: You might have to copy the files to your desktop first, edit them, then move them back into the package.

And I guess you have to redo this when an update is out, unless that update contains the GF1 support.

This didn't work for me. Am I the only one? I'm running Snow Leopard with the Aperture 3 Trial. When I select "RAW files only" under "RAW+JPEG Pairs" no files show up. My raw files are named like this: P1010199.RW2. When I searched for the string GF1 inside the RAW file I found "Panasonic.DMC-GF1", but that string doesn't appear anywhere in my modified RawCamera or Raw.plist files. Those have strings like: "PanasonicGF1.DMC-GF1", "PanasonicDMCGF1", and "RCID_PanasonicDMCGF1". Is that the problem? What kind of string do other people have in their RAW files?

I have an alternative solution... a little app that fools Aperture into thinking the files came from a G1. Its a drag and drop app that copies your raw and makes changes to the copy.
Totally safe and no need to go hacking around in the system folder
Its available here

I don't have a GF1 so I am not sure what, if anything, is lost in the conversion, but it seems to work. The app takes a copy of your original file and performs a little wild magic on it so your original file is always safe
cheers
