So I restored my iPod to try and fix this, and it didnt work, no matter what am im doing, it'll randomly fast forawrd the song, not switch to the song, but it'll speed the current song up for a bit, sometimes even skip it, sometimes not. and it stops randomly too, and itll happen in apps too! and just today one of the speakers in my headphones started to short out, so are these two connected? ive tried several pairs of headphones and things and the same result. I've treated my iPod with great care so i dont know what it is...
It is not the headphones. I have this same problem with my iPhone 3G, and my phone sits on my desk next to me, while I work. I do not sweat, and I am in an air conditioned office.
I have been able to reproduce the issue with two different sets of headphones.
I think it's the headphones. I own a set of Bose In-ear mobile headphones, and they worked great. I also work out a lot, which means I sweat a lot. A little while ago, the mobile mic function on the headset stopped working, and then the music would stop, or randomly fast forward. very annoying.
To prove this theory, I pulled out the headphone set that came with the iphone (which have never been used). No random stops or fast-forwards. Although the sound quality is certainly degraded, I can at least hear songs to their completion.
My next call is going to be to Bose, for a refund or exchange.
my Ipod is doing exactly the same weird things, i dont know if its the headset or is it the new update, but i just bought it one month ago, i use it to go to the gym and probably all the vibration from running or something like that.
I have a second generation Ipod touch and i have had this problem for a while. it only came recently, i presume with the new software.
The screen on an ipod touch and iphone work with slight electrical inputs from the surface of your finger or skin, this is why it wont work with a plastic styl
us or other objects.
what is a possible answer as to why this is happening is that static electricity passes from your body over the connection between you and the ipod and directly onto the ipod (Note that this happens with everything, even a coin is charged with slight static when you are holding it).
The metal back of the ipod conducts electricity as any alloy will and it may then infterfere with the screen which in turn is then interpreted as input by the ipod. Even tough this may always have been happening, we might only be seeing issues now with a new software update that has perhaps been overlooked by apple, answering why this happens even when the ipod is locked and screen turned off.
Im not an egnineer or electrictian so this is all speculation.
I'm having the same problem on my iPhone 4 and Shuffle. It seems to only happen on headphones that have a remote control built in. I've seen this problem happen on Apple standard headphones, Ultimate Ears, and, as of about 5 minutes ago, iBeats by Dr Dre. The iBeats started doing it the moment I started using them. (i.e. no sweat) but my unit is exposed to sweat regularly when I workout. So...I hope someone reads this and knows a fix. I've tried all kinds of different settings on the iPhone to no avail. The only fix I've found is to swtich to a pair of headphones without a remote.
