Question

This installation package could not be opened, Bootcamp 3.1_64-bit, Windows

Followed install directions carefully, and windows 7 is running fine on my macbook pro. It was a new install, on new laptop. I updated software and drivers.

I am trying to install an application (morae) and it is not working. I download ap and try to run the .exe file and
Wise Installation Wizard opens, and then I get an error message:

This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package.

Please help.

macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Install of BC 3.0 went fine?

You've checked in Programs, msconfig, and that you have Boot Camp control panel (along with Apple items).

Standalone download of the BC 3.1 64-bit to your hard drive?
Are you using Apple Software Update?

I may be more confused that I realize.
I just assume install went ok because I have the windows environment running on my mac.
I don't see Bootcamp in my programs folder;
if I do msconfig, I see in startup Boot camp;
and its command is program files/Bootcamp/Bootcamp.exe
I do have a bootcamp control panel, but don't see any others that seem like "apple items" -- what would those be?

I did download and install :
Boot Camp Software Update 3.1 for Windows 64 bit
This update is highly recommended for all Boot Camp 3.0 users.

Just ran Apple Software Update (I am 95% sure I ran it earlier) but only found updates for safari, itunes + quicktime, and quicktime.

Control Panels: Boot Camp - then you are fine

Programs Control Panel: list of what is installed

MSCONFIG - you have Apple Time Services and OS Switcher

So it was installed.

There should be Apple Software Update

From START menu just type "Apple" etc

Now you want to update to 3.1.

Sorry, I don't follow your reply at all.
I think my problem is in Windows, rather than bootcamp, and has to do with permissions but that is a guess.
In terms of what you write:
I don't see Apple Time Services or OS Switcher anywhere, though I can start up in either os no problem.
I do have apple software updater, and already downloaded and installed updates.
This made no change.
It is when I try and install another application that my problem occurs.

In msconfig is where you find apple serives and startup.
And OSSwitcher is what Boot Camp control panel is using.

Same for TimeServices. If they are there in msconfig tab, then you had a good install of BC 3.x.

Use Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility.

Believe it or not, I think the problem has been in the third party software I am trying to install. I finally heard back from vendor, and they asked me to test a different file from them as they "have been seeing some odd behavior with Morae Manager installation file."
