Out going server not working

My father came to visit. He has an apple but does not have an apple email account(I know, I already yelled at him). Anyways, he can't send email for some reason. It says, "Cannot send message using the server: smtp.metrocast.net"

My outgoing server works for me, but of course it is an Apple mobilme server "smtp.me.com:brianoro"

What should he do?

Thanks,

Brian

If he's using his ISP "metrocast" as the outgoing server, he can only use it when he is on their physical network (at home). It won't work if your ISP is something else. ISP do that to avoid spamming.

He should set up another outgoing server that uses your ISP's server, although some ISP also block that if he's email address is not on their system.

His ISP may also have an option to use some sort of authentication to use the SMTP server when he is not on the network.

It worked! Thanks. I googled my SMPT server for my area(my cable provider) and I added it as an Outgoing Mail Server SMTP. Every time he sends mail the option of which server to use still pops up and he has to manually select my SMTP server, but it works.(I did not want to make my server his default because he will be going home soon) Thanks for your help!

Brian
