iPhone/iPod Proxy Authentication DOES NOT work.

Safari works on my iPod, however most other apps do not work when connected to the University Wifi (which requires an HTTP proxy to connect to the internet). None of the ports used by the proxy are blocked, as all traffic works through Safari, and everything on my Laptop works fine through it (funny how PCs 'just work'!).

Thanks Apple, another quality product!!!!

I guess I have no use for this thing now, so I can take it back to the store!

I am apalled that this basic functionality is still broken after more than a year. Hello, Apple - is anyone listening? I have been trying to decide between iPhone and Android and Apple's arrogance in ignoring this issue is pushing me strongly towards Android.

This is my exact problem.

And you would think a work around would be to create an Ad-Hoc network that doesn't need proxy authentication on your pc, that has your shared internet connection. And then connect to this with your iPod/iPhone.
However, I cannot get the iPod to use the internet after I've done this..

Quite frustrating actually.

Does Apple know about this little gem of a bug?

I have the same problem.i am behind a university proxy. Only appstore and safari work.None of the third party apps work.Some of them(bbc and twitter) show errors like "proxy authentication failed"...and crash.

You type in your corporate proxy info http:// and the Ipod changes
it to htttp:// ( a 3rd t in http ? Very odd.

hey,,

i have iphone 4 with ipos 4.3.4 with same issue...can only connect to safari app store and email account..everything else like stocks, weather, skype, fring, facebook etc....

did anyone manage to find a solution ?

This problem still hasn't been fixed in close to two years.

This is not a feature suggestion, it's a serious functionality bug that Apple has been ignoring.

Please have this fixed soon since it affects so many iPod users. (Aug. 2011)
