VPN disconnects when iPhone goes into auto-lock ?

As the subject says....my iPhone seems to disconnect the VPN as soon as it goes into auto-lock....in my case after two minutes.
I have a L2TP VPN configured for a mail connection to an Exchange server...if it constantly disconnects then the pushmail functionality is of no use....

Is this behaviour as designed or am I missing something ?

this isn't normal.

i'm using VPN for a year now. never noticed this...
i've tried now to replicate this and failed. it works fine!

i've only noticed it to be disconnected when fluctuation between 3G and EDGE happens. between WiFi and 3G the connection is persistent. push mail and other services work fine...

Hello,

I had the same problem with losing WIFI and VPN when the phone goes into lock screen.

I found an own "solution":

- Download a silent mp3 file on the internet

- install switch (mp3 convert program) and convert the mp3 to the lowest bitrate possible> 8kbs / 11Khz.

- place mp3 on USB stick and put this into your Router, Nas or Iconnect.

- when connected to VPN with iphone / Ipad> play the mp3 file from the stick bij using any program like remote file / file explorer

- the result is:

1. you dont here any sound of the mp3

2. you will hear every whatsapp sound or sms etc

3. Because of the low bitrate it uses very low data

4. your vpn stays connected when the phone goes into lock

This works perfect for me and i hope it will help you.

Greetings

Problem people is that apple is really doing this on purpose to match the silent privacy agreements they made, basically to make some guys rely on the feature which fails and exposes them, the link i provided is a legitimate way of creating ALWAYS ON VPN mode on an iPhone, and that is ONE and ONLY way for corporations to make use of constant encryption.

Basically it involves in setting up a "Supervised" profile while you are setting up a new iPhone

type

You need to use IKEv2 type of security, its was built for mobile devises, it reconnects better when there is loss of internet (subway tunnel in and out) and is extremely well encrypted, supports AES 128, AES 192, AES 256 and 3DES ciphers

1. To set this up you need Apple Configurator installed on your Mac computer, yes you need Mac computer to do this, you cannot do this on PC.

2. Disable Find My iPhone

3. plug it in, open the Apple configurator, name the phone, and switch on "Supervision"

4. preparation will wipe the iphone you will need to back it up, later you can restore it without any problems, it will also download an entirely different iOS version, not the usual one you get.

5. Now you need to set up an Always On profile, follow instructions in the link to make new profile.

etc
