Unable to calibrate laser power level for this media

Hello JG,

This happened to me very recently - I was convinced that it was the drive failing
( or worse ! )

Running the hardware test revealed no problems. I used Onyx and ran " every " option on there. It fixed it for me. I hope it does so for you.

Please read all the instructions before using Onyx. Please also make sure you get the correct version for your operating system and I would humbly suggest that you make a full back up of all your data before running every option in...

I have been experiencing the same issues for about a week now ... I have tried different media by different manufactuers. Anyone else have other suggestions??

My burner burns the layer0, but fails when it starts to burn layer1 with the unable to calibrate message. The DVD plays fine about half way, then DVD player quits. Problem started with upgrade to 10.4.3. Went through the chat troubleshooting and burned 5 more coasters. Now awaiting a new optical drive.

Ordered self-service repair at midnight Sunday. New optical drive arrived Tuesday morning. Replacement took all of 10 minutes (screwdriver included with part). New drive works fine. DVR K04 replaced with DVR K05. Using Verbatim DVD+R DL media.

well...all the way down to Chile.., the same problem..I had to throw away 4 DVDs last time..in a brand new 2 weeks old Imac....isn´t it time for Apple to say something about it??....for what I´m seeying...it´s not a localized problem....hope to ear some solutions...

how did you order this repair kit? and where from?

Same problem here, same error messages, asking myself same questions...

I think i'll take my mac (under warranty) back at the reseller (they made me wait for 2 months before my mac arrived... and it arrived when the new iMac with built iSight was available), for me it's really ashaming because my dad adviced me not to buy a mac (again)... But i DID...

Anyway.. (It's my first post in the "Support" Discussions, now i'll have to move to the dispaly section because i also have a problem with my display... :((((((

I ve read your posts... First you advice Onyx and then you got a new optical drive.

I ve downloaded Onyx for Tiger, just to give a try, but it seems it s just a soft to modify the appearance + maintenance... Or is it more?

After having a logicboard and the extra 1gig ram (the ram a factory installed item) replaced about a month ago at the apple store, and then doing safe boots for a bit to clear things up, now it seems I can't burn a cd via itunes (tried different media), haven't tried a dvd with dvd studio pro, yet.
I've read some of the discussions, what does apple support have to say before I call (within warranty with apple care support) or try some of the other remedies?

I have the same problem aswell, but it does it intermittently for me. I can stick in a disc and try to burn it, and it pops out, but if i wait five minutes and stick it back in again, it works. I think my problem is that i use the CD burner too much, and i need to let it "relax", so to speak.

yeah my CD burner always works the first time i make a CD and then if i wanna make another one directly after i get that stupid error message. maybe i should just give it like a half hour or so to ... "chill", so to speak.

I am having the same issue with my 2.1 20" iMac. It seems to only occur while trying to burn to a dual layer dvd. Frustrating.
