Using iChat with AOL chat rooms

Well, I press command R on iChat which brings up the go to chat room window, I type in the name of the AOL chat room and click the little plus sign at the bottom, select the chat room then click go but nothing happens. Before this I also tried writing in the name the clicking go without clicking the plus sign and still nothing. I've read online that it IS possible and I'd like to do it. What am I doing wrong?
