Verify copied data

Is there a way to make sure OS X verifies copied data at least once before telling me it has finished copying my files?

I want to move some files from a disk image to a sparse bundle to save room, but I want to make sure they are copied correctly (i.e., I want to avoid corrupted files down the road). Is there an OS X way to do it or a third party application that would help?

You can never depend on files remaining uncorrupted. Copy verification isn't going to guarantee that you won't lose those files. Copying into a disk image, regardless of what kind, is not generally an issue. (I have never seen a file fail to be copied properly into a disk image.) The problem is that if a disk image becomes even slightly corrupt, you lose everything in it. You need to have a good backup system in place. For assistance with that, see my [Mac Backup Guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/backups>.

I've never seen or heard of a file getting corrupted this way. I think you are wasting your time. as Thomas says the bundle itself getting corrupted is a much more likely proposition. but I suppose if you really want to check you can make a script that checksums each individual file and compares the results. or just run diff recursively on both the source and the target directories in terminal

diff -r path/to/source/directory path/to/target/directory
