Why are hyphens so high in the word?

I am puzzled by the position of hyphens in my text. I am using Garamond Pro, size 13 and it looks strange. Doesn't seem to really change using a different font like Times. Is there a way to control the positioning of the hyphen? I am thinking not but might as well ask.

I select just the hyphen. Check the Capital forms box. No change in appearance. Close the panel window, reopen with same hyphen once again selected, Capital forms is not checked.

Normally the selected hyphen should move up and down in real time as you check and uncheck the box for Capital forms. Also it should stay checked I think until you uncheck it. But I am basing his on the similar font Myriad Pro.

Richard - do you have the same problem in Textedit or any other word processor?

Do you have doublets of the font? Have you validated the font in the Font book? Do you have the problem in several documents?

That did not happen. Strange. Well, I am solving the problem by moving to a different font. Helvetica seems to have the expected looking hyphens.

I do not have this issue using the same font, Garamond Premier Pro, size 13, caption in Text Edit. Looks just fine.

I used Font book to check the font. No problems listed now. There were some duplicates which I inactivated but it did not change how it looks in Pages.

They do not move at all. No change checking or unchecking. I selected just one hyphen. Was that the way to do it? No change. Then closing the panel and reopening shows no change and that the box is no longer checked.
The only thing I can add to this confusion is that the text was originally formatted in Supercard and exported. As far as I know the formatting in SC is the same as any other program so doubt that is the issue. I put the formatted text into TextEdit as well, rtf. Looks fine there in Times, changed it to Garamond Pro in Text Edit and hyphens look normal, as expected, so it seems to be an issue with Pages.

Richard - If you write your text your self in Garamond with Caption. Does it look as it should?
It probably does.

Open the SC text in textEdit and then copy/ paste it to Pages. Hopefully will the little demon go to the demon heaven and not disturb the font.

Yes, if I use this font in TextEdit, make some hyphenated words and then copy and paste into Pages it looks fine.

Thanks! I'm surprised that Garamond behaves differently than Myriad or Minion. Always best to have the actual font causing the problem when offering advice:-)

I meant write the text in Pages.
TextEdit could be used as a middle station between SuperCard and Pages to get rid of whatever is messing up the hyphens behavior.

You can probably get it with any Adobe product. I probably got it with Adobe reader or Photoshop 🙂

Garamond is one that doesn't come with Reader, but you are right, any other product should have it.

That did not work. Originally Supercard wrote to TextEdit and then I copied from there into Pages. Just a quirk I guess.
