Aperture 3 Vault - Updating Vault issue

I've upgraded to Aperture 3.

I created a new Vault.

I started a backup to the new vault 14 hours ago and it's still chugging away with the progress bar at about the 50% mark with a status of "Updating Vault". It hasn't made any progress since it stopped copying the masters about 2 hours ago.

My library is around 1.5TB and 175K files.

This is the third time I have tried backing up to a new vault and it always hangs at this point. I'm currently using Superduper to make a copy of my library so I have a current backup of some kind.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I erased my Aperture Vault HD and started a new vault from scratch. It got most of the way done, apparently finished copying the master files because at one point I saw it was working on the Previews, and now it's stalled.

The application says "Loading Assets," and the light on the external HD I'm using for the vault is flashing as if it's reading or writing, but the amount of free space on that drive hasn't changed in six or eight hours.

This is exactly where Aperture has stalled before.

Another slightly-over-50%-and-then-hanging case here 😟

Mine is "Copying Previews".

2 vaults, one on external USB, one on Synology NAS via Apple Timecapsule over cable.

Aperture running at ±3% CPU, no disk activity on Aperture library or vault, no network activity.

Aperture library 383 GB, primary vault 377.28 GB., secondary is still unknown (Finder seems to take for ever to calculate, and NAS web UI simply says "N/A" -- very helpful...).

Timestamp on the primary vault is from weeks ago, so it is not updated yet.
Timestamp on the secondary vault is also from weeks ago, so not updated.

There is no way to cancel the operation, and the Quit command (and others) are disabled. The only way out seems to Fore Quit it. Makes you feel very confident 😟

And oh, yes, don't dare pointing your Finder at any of these disk to check the size, cause the chances are high that you'll get a Finder using 99% CPU forever (until you kill it).

Angry.

Since so many people are having issues with this including myself, what would be the alternative option? Can we completely not use the vaults and back up our libraries another way? I don't know about you all but my progress bar does go pass the 50% mark but I am constantly getting error messages. When I close out of Aperture then open it back up, it shows where I have over 1,000 images that need to be backed up! So I have no idea what is actually going on!

You would think that it would backup what it could and whatever image is causing those errors that it would not. At least that is what I thought it was doing but apparently that is not the case it seems.
