Sony TRV 260 Handy Cam

I have just purchased on-line a four pin cable that will hookup to my Sony TRV 260 Handycam and also hook into my new Mac (iMac 9,1)

I found the information for this cable right here from a subscriber named Kenichi Watanabe - Thanks Dude, I had been asking around here in Thunder Bay for a cable that would integrate with my Mac and Sony camera and all I got here was dumb looks and a pitch to by a new camcorder. So much for the local Future Shop ( our only authorized Apple dealer).

Anyway, I digress.

I have the software for this camera but cannot seem to get it to download on my machine. Will iMovie recognize the camera without the software download? Is there anyplace I can obtain software that will download on the Mac. Does anyone have a suggestion to help downloading the softare I currently have?

Look what I found here: http://www.sony-asia.com/support/faq/347240/product/dcr-pc109e. The TRV260 is on the list of applicable models. I think, this is as official as it gets. I still have to check it at home - now I am really curios and can't wait to find the answer.

I'll post an update tonight.

Update:

Last night I checked my camcorder and, well..., it does not have pass-through capability. I tend to believe that the same model has different features, based on the market where it is (was) sold.

Now I need to get a digital converter.

Yep, it's all in the firmware, with my first digital 8 I had to buy a little 'widget' to enable the DV in functionality!

I've read through most of this thread and it appears there has been reasonable success connecting various sony hand cams via the fire wire.

Great I thought, went and bought the cable, however I still cant get imovie to recognise the cameras is connected? a

Am I missing something, is there a setting some where I haven't changed? or could by old handy cam be faulty?

starting to loose the will to live any help would be nice

I received the cable only yesterday, and I was able to transfer some footage pretty fast.
After connecting the camera to your Mac, via FireWire, make sure your camcorder is in VTR mode (that is play). Then go to iMovie and click Import. I am not in front of my Mac now, but it's pretty easy. Just make sure you are in Play mode, otherwise it won't work.
