Mail not saving sent messages to AOL "sent items" folder

Hello.
AOL made some changes recently, so that emails sent with a third-party email client (like Mail, or Thunderbird) are not automatically saved to the AOL's sent folder (which shows up as the "sent items" folder with Mail.)

How do you set Mail up with AOL so that sent messages are saved to the "sent items" folder? The setup instructions above do not work. (With Thunderbird you can set it up to save properly by specifically pointing to the "saved items" folder.)

Hello,
Can you please clarify how to set up my APPLE mail to handle the IMAP for AOL?
I am a bit confused with the discussion. I have my settings in apple mail to keep on server.
I am having issues with the sent mail not showing up in my apple mail folders (either from apple mail, aol on aol.com or on my iphone (imap). THey sent mail shows up periodically but no specific place. Which folders for SENT mail should I use and which should I delete? Which should I specify for SENT MAIL?

you seem to understand how to set up IMAP MAIL on APPLE MAIL.
I also use an iphone.

all these sent folders and none of them seem to work all the time.

I thought I already told you how to sort out the problem and also you did not need to delete those folders as now your sent items are gone
Go into mail and look into your aol tree structure, there will be a sent folder (not into my folder in the general tree) select that one and in mail select the option use this mailbox for sent
The folder will disappear from the tree structure and go in the top sent in your mail.app the sent items will from now be sent
If you had not deleted the sent folders into the my folder section you could have copied the content to the sent on aol but it is too late now i guess

the strange thing is if you send e-mail from aol.com all your sent messeges will show in the sent folder on aol.com. when you send mail via the postage stamp your sent mail appears in the sent folder but when you then go to aol.com to check sent mail folder is empty.
