Starting today, I get a dialog box popup that says "Type your password to allow UserEventAgent to make changes." If I click the disclosure button, the Right it is looking for is "system.preferences". It happens every time I login to my account. Is there any way I can find out why this is popping up?
Check out
this thread on Macrumors' forums, which details UserEventAgent becoming non-responsive. Although it is not directly related, I think you should try some of those suggestions and see what comes of it.
Bump - just hoping this gets attention as this has happened to me three times now. At first I dismissed it thinking it may have had to do with recently installing xcode, but seeing this post now makes me think it's something else. Surely not everyone has this issue, so what might we have in common?
Any idea what I can send to compare? In system prefs I have a few customs addons:
application enhancer, logitech control center, divx, flip4mac, growl, hazel, macfuse, ntfs-3g, pen tablet, perian, switchresx, techtoolprotection, version cue cs4, wacom tablet.
although I doubt it's any of those since I haven't changed anything recently.
Did you by any chance install the xcode sdk beta 4 today?
Since installation of an SDK seems to be the common factor here, I'd recommend you either contact Developer Tech Support or file a bug via Apple Bug Reporter.
I think i figured out what it's doing, but not how to stop it. If I put in my credentials, it unlocks the Time Machine page in system preferences. Otherwise, it doesn't. When I was downloading and installed beta 4, I left the page unlocked and disabled Time Machine. I wonder if somehow those settings are sticking for some reason.
iPhone sdk 4 is what started it for me. Removing it fixed it. I kinda want to know why that happens though. I would like to keep beta 4 (for obvious reasons)
/System/Library/UserEventPlugins/PortableStorage.plugin appears to be responsible - new (or changed) with beta 4. Moving it out of UserEventPlugins stops the issue from occurring, though I don't know what side-effects it might have on the SDK.
open the "about Xcode tools" PDF inthe developer folder. It lots a command to remove the entire developer suite. Make sure you reboot before installing another copy of Xcode
