Weird Authentication Dialog

Check out this thread on Macrumors' forums, which details UserEventAgent becoming non-responsive. Although it is not directly related, I think you should try some of those suggestions and see what comes of it.

Bump - just hoping this gets attention as this has happened to me three times now. At first I dismissed it thinking it may have had to do with recently installing xcode, but seeing this post now makes me think it's something else. Surely not everyone has this issue, so what might we have in common?

Any idea what I can send to compare? In system prefs I have a few customs addons:

application enhancer, logitech control center, divx, flip4mac, growl, hazel, macfuse, ntfs-3g, pen tablet, perian, switchresx, techtoolprotection, version cue cs4, wacom tablet.

although I doubt it's any of those since I haven't changed anything recently.

Did you by any chance install the xcode sdk beta 4 today?

I am having the same problem since I installed new sdk beta 4 last night. I rebooted this morning and it is still doing it.

Me too.

Since installation of an SDK seems to be the common factor here, I'd recommend you either contact Developer Tech Support or file a bug via Apple Bug Reporter.

Same here. Maybe if we remove the 3.2 Beta 4?

I also get the dialog when starting or stopping my VPN connection.

I think i figured out what it's doing, but not how to stop it. If I put in my credentials, it unlocks the Time Machine page in system preferences. Otherwise, it doesn't. When I was downloading and installed beta 4, I left the page unlocked and disabled Time Machine. I wonder if somehow those settings are sticking for some reason.

If you're dealing with beta SW, posting here is inappropriate.

Caleb, how did you remove it? I will stick with v3.1.3 SDK and wonder how to completly remove the SDK.

BTW. I don’t have the problem on all computers with 3.2 Beta 4.

/System/Library/UserEventPlugins/PortableStorage.plugin appears to be responsible - new (or changed) with beta 4. Moving it out of UserEventPlugins stops the issue from occurring, though I don't know what side-effects it might have on the SDK.

Since a new release came out today, I wonder if it stopped that dialog from coming up.

Anyone care to update this thread?
