Setting the default font

Hi All,
when i upgraded my OS from 10.5 to 10.6, the default font changes and become not pretty like what it was... (especially for some non-english fonts...)
i mean by [default font] : the font of the folders on my Desktop, the font that appears when i compile my Java code and get my application, and so...

iMac intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.6)

First, thanks for your help

when i was on the 10.5 OS, i made some Java application containing some Arabic words as labels and so...
When i upgraded to 10.6, i found that those Arabic words change to another font that it a little bigger than the old one and not so nice like what i had on the 10.5
(The same problem occurs on the names of folders and files...)
Thanks

Thanks Tom,
... May be you compared just the fonts of folders and files under both OS 10.6 and 10.5
they have more difference than this level ...
for example, when i compiled my Java program containing some Arabic labels, I'm surprised when i saw the fonts under my new OS 10.6 .... it is the SAME code the same IDE ... all was the same, only the OS was upgraded to 10.6 ...
the question is always : How to access such font and size and edit it ...
in general, how to access any such font (English or Arabic or other...)
Thanks to any idea

Can anyone tell me what I can do to correct this issue? I am using iMail ver. 4.2 (1077). When I send to other mac users my fonts and signatures remains the same as I had created. When sending to window users my fonts go crazy...defaulting to times roman and my signature gets huge but I believe it is the same font, just bigger. I can not seem to fix this issue, no matter what I do. Does anyone know a fix for this?

To have your fonts appear correctly at the other end, you must set them in the New Message pane for each outgoing message individually. Is that what you are doing? Mail > Preferences does not accomplish this. Also you may need to make sure that the font you choose in the New Message pane is different than what you have chosen in Mail > Preferences.

In the future, for Mail questions I recommend that you post a new topic in the forum for Mail instead of tacking it on to a different question in the wrong forum.
