How do I manually edit my podcast feed

Hello,

I have a weekly podcast, and I am looking to redesign the site as well as start manually posting my podcast to itunes. I currently have been using the podpress plugin for wordpress, but I would like to start editing my podcast feed manually. The problem is that I cannot even find my podcast feed to edit manually.

Podpress tells me my URL for my feed is myurl.com/?feed=podcast

When I navigate to this URL in my browser I can see the feed, and it can be validataed. However, when I log into my site with my FTP program I cannot find a file named /?feed=podcast anywere on the site. Where can I find this file to edit it manually?

It's probable that it's not practicable for you to edit the feed manually: if you do manage to locate the feed and edit it you will probably find that the next time you add an episode Wordpress will overwrite your changes.

As to where the feed is, this is to do with the way Wordpress works and I can't advise on that; presumably they have Help or a forum where you can get advice.

What if I were to uninstall wordpress, and create a new document with the same URL address as an XML file. I could copy paste the same code into it. Would that work?

If my last reply was confusing, what I mean to ask is - is it practical to replace the wordpress install and make a new XML feed document which I can edit to continue the podcast?

There's no reason why you shouldn't write the feed yourself, as long as you are careful to follow the requirements exactly. To iTunes, the feed is the podcast, so it doesn't matter how it's written as long as it's valid. You will need to have your episodes already uploaded to a server and put the URLs to them in the feed (full URLs including the http://, not relative URLs).

However the feed must be at exactly the same URL as before or iTunes won't find it. If you want to change the feed URL you need to be able to amend the original feed as detailed here:

If you are unable to access or edit the original feed then you can't change the feed URL and you will have to get the podcast removed and start again from scratch.
