Roaming desktop icons

Iv tried everything, but I can't stop my desktop icons from roaming. No matter how many times I move the icons back to the top of the desktop. Whenever I shut down the new MBP the icons return to the right side when I start up again. I have "none" marked on the icon list so no idea why they keep rearranging themselves when I shut down.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

Hi all.

Today when firing up Adobe Photoshop CS5
(on my Mac Pro mid2010 with Lion)

I had the famous "Extensis Suitcase Fusion" plug-in error dialog box

saying the the Suitcase Fusion Core service was not running.

I tried to start up the Suitcase Fusion Core engine, but it failed several times.

So I un-installed Suitcase Fusion with my

CleanMyMac app. Then I rebooted Lion.

When I got back the desktop icons was moved again up to

upper right corner.

I installed Suitcase Fusion 3 v.14.0.6 again

and the Core service did start up and the Photoshop

plug-in error is not showing anymore.

I could it be Extensis Suitcase Fusion 3 v.14.0.6

was moves our desktop icons. Or maybe the

CleanMyMac app, well I don't think it is the

CleanMyMac app that is doing it. Because I have used

it to uninstall different Apps with. And had never had

the desktop icons moved after an uninstall by CleanMyMac app.

The Suitcase Fusion 3 v.14.0.6 (latest version)

should be compatible with Lion.

Allthough is only is a oldschool 32 bit service!

Quite crappy of Extensis to have it still 32 bit I think!

they say in their website it is a professional font mananager!

Nowhere it says 32 bit!!!

;o)

But how many of you with moving desktop icons have Suitcase Fusion installed???

My Mac Pro (OS 10.7.1) has the problem regularly, my iMac (OS 10.7.1) occasionally, but it has never even once occurred on my MacBook Air (OS 10.7.1). All three computers were upgraded from OS 10.6.8, where I never had the problem on any of the computers.

I'm totally at a loss to explain what might cause it.

What I've noticed so far is that deleting .DS_Store will stop it for a while, but the problem invariably returns.

The problem only returns after a system restart, but not after every restart.

Saving a file to the desktop increases the likelihood that the icons are out of order after the next restart.

I'm beginning to suspect it must be an application that I'm never using on the MacBook, but regularly on the two other computers. A reoccurrence today, where I had only used a few apps before the problem reappeared after a restart would narrow it down pretty much to BBEdit (9.6.3) or Transmit (3.7). Anybody here using these apps?

Thanks a lot, alonsojcg, this DIM application has really been the solution for me. If anyone is still interested, the last time I got this maddening problem (always occurring randomly, sometimes with weeks in between) was upon rebooting after I'd installed the latest firmware update on my MacBook Pro a few days ago. It was like magic watching DIM put all the icons back in place!

Just chiming in here to report that I also have this problem, it's driving me NUTS. This never happend on my previous iMac (mid-2006) running any OS before Lion.

Now on my brand new 2011 iMac running lion, every single time I start my computer all my icons are moved around. They're all still grouped on the right of my screen, but they're never in the order I left them in.

It's incredible a) how annoying this is and b) that this is happening at all. Come on Apple, how can you have Lion, a fantastic OS that I am in love with, running a bug like this?
