Itunes hard freezes Windows 7 64 bit when loading corefp.dll

After a recent bios upgrade itunes will hard freeze everything while trying to load corefp.dll (ran it through windbg, this is where it halts). It does not accept any input, all displays freeze - the only solution is to reboot manually.

After further testing I tried both removing and renaming corefp.dll - this allowed itunes to load properly, no system lockups. Of course this caused a new problem, any iphones/ipods are unable to sync with itunes due to the fact that the Coref(air)p(lay).dll was not loaded. I can use pretty much any itunes fuction save syncing devices.

At the moment I cannot downgrade my bios, so my only option would be to wait for Asus to fix whatever they broke, or see if Apple can offer a solution.

Does anybody have any suggestions or ideas of how I could fix this problem?

Okay. I'm wondering about the second one, relating to COMCTL32.dll. That's associated with the Side-by-Side machinery for your operating system ... which is basically what modern versions of Windows use in order to avoid getting dlls in a tangle.

So if something's gone wrong with the side-by-side, that might explain the issue with CoreFP.dll.

If it's a side-by-side issue, then that might indicate a further issue with the .NET framework on your PC. So, the measures from the following document may be of some assistance:

[iTunes for Windows: "iTunes was not installed properly. Please reinstall iTunes" message|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3074]

(This may work where an sfc /scannow didn't because a scannow only addresses "static" operating system components like files, whereas an update/repair of the .NET framework would also address "dynamic" components like registry entries.)
